Session 1758
May 24, 1999

planted by them. The Mayor said that it is still in University City. Mr. Ollendorff said that
this should be alright since it is still public land.

Mayor Adams said that he and Mr. Ollendofff have been talking to the County about
improving some O)unty roads and the have agreed to talk with U. City In Bloom on some
projects. This has taken close to two years, however.

Mr. Sharpe wante(I to find out if a meeting could be arranged with the U. City in Bloom
people informing t lem, positively, that a saturation point might be reached soon, so they
will not be surpris~d when the City does not allow an increase in the future. Mayor Adams
said we have to be careful about the extra projects we ask them to do then. Mr. Sharpe
agrees, but he believes a general understanding between the U. City in Bloom people and
the City should be made now, so no surprises are forthcoming.

Mr. Ollendorff said
that we may have
wants it taken bac
function.

that he would be happy to pass Mr. Sharpe's message back to them
imits to how much we want to spend on this function. Mr. Sharpe
< in a very positive manner, because we are very supportive of their

AGENDA #3 - METCALF PARK SOIL BORING & EVALUATION:

Mr. Ollendorff reqLests approval of our emergency contract with Geotechnology, Inc. for soil
boring, exploration and testing of the underground soil conditions for the total amount of
$11,400. This cor tract was approved on an emergency basis following the settlement of
about half of this I:ark by about two feet last month. We need to find out the cause and
recommended solutions. This company has been employed by the City Council in the past
to do soils study w}rk. Will report back to Council in four to five weeks.

Mr. Schoomer mo~ed approval. Mr. Sharpe seconded the motion.

Mr. Lieberman asked if their was any prognosis on the costs to repair the damage. Mr.
OIlendorff said that they do not know yet. If only one fill is required, being filled a little over
time, it will be rela :ively low cost. It can be costly, if it has to be done right away, all at
one time. Not sure what low and high means in dollars yet until the report comes back
from the engineers

Mr. Sharpe asked i: the engineers will also be able to tell us if there could be any additional
settlement. Mr. 01 endorff said that they should be able to. One possibility is that the
results of their bori lg are inconclusive and they have to do more borings or wholesale
excavation - which is the worst case scenario. The best case is that they are able to locate
the problem and define it, and that it can be filled.

4
