We have however, enjoyed refunds from <br />SLAIT for several years, and we should not anticipate rebates in the coming <br />years as the excess carrier rates continue to climb. <br /> <br />There are two flyers from the Planning Department attached regarding <br />neighborhood meetingsNorthwest <br />. The Neighborhood invitation is for their <br />third public meeting on Thursday, October 12 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. The <br />Northeast <br /> Neighborhood meeting will be Thursday, October 19 from 6:30 to 8:00 <br />PM, to review the progress on the NE Plan. Both meetings are scheduled in the <br />Heman Park Community Center. <br /> <br />Additional Neighborhood meetings: The 6500 Block of Corbitt Neighborhood <br />6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 <br />Association will have its regular meeting at at <br />Heman Park Community Center. Councilmembers Price and Sharpe are <br />organizing a NE Neighborhood meeting for October 10 also in the Community <br />Center at 7:00 PM. <br /> <br />A number of partnering opportunities were identified when Council met with the <br />Pagedale <br />officials from . One request was to investigate the use of Pagedale <br />residents at Centennial Commons. Mayor Carter will be forwarding a proposal <br />wherein Pagedale residents pay University City resident rates, and the City of <br />Pagedale pays the difference in order to match the non-resident rate. Director <br />McCartney also discussed the possibility of corporate membership for Pagedale <br />employees. I will forward you any future correspondence for your consideration. <br /> <br />The Mayor and I met with the University City School District representatives this <br />Long <br />week; in addition, I attended the University School district meeting. The <br />Range Planning Committee <br /> provided an update on their process and fielded <br />questions. The LRPC put a lot of thought and effort into their discussion thus far <br />and I look forward to seeing their final report to the Board. They encourage the <br />public to attend their meetings; I have included the dates in your weekly meeting <br />calendar. Questions were raised to the Committee Co-Chair, Bryce Cooper, <br />regarding the Committee’s thoughts on University City residents not enrolling <br />their children in University City schools. At the same meeting Joylynn Wilson, <br />homelessness and educational larceny. <br />provided the Board with an update on <br />I have included information on both with your packet. The City is collaborating <br />with the School District to identify a strategy regarding educational larceny. <br />Homelessness is a classification utilized by students for a number of reasons as <br />defined in the handout. There are 248 students in our district identified as <br />homeless. It costs the District over $9,000 to educate each student. The primary <br />funding mechanism is property tax, which is static. The State provides $3,000 per <br />student in the district, creating a $6,000 gap for service delivery for students not <br />truly within the District. It is clearly a sensitive issue to investigate because <br />everyone wants the best for our students and it could be considered a loss of <br /> <br />
