Traffic Commission

6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146

Commissioner Brot moved to continue the two-way traffic on Melville Ave, prohibit parking
on the west side of the street and approve additional parking on Loop South, including one
or two disabled parking spaces and carry-out parking space and a sign that indicates that
“more parking available on Washington Avenue.” Motion was seconded by Commissioner
Womack.

Commissioner Bondareff amended the motion to continue to have two-way traffic on
Melville Avenue as it currently is, with no parking on the west side of the street; and
consider at a future meeting the possibility to have on Loop south one or two disabled
parking space and/or pick up delivery parking space. Commissioner Brot accepted the
amendment to the motion. Motion was unanimously approved.
Commissioner Henderson requested that Ms. Gutierrez send a letter to the
resident/business owners once a decision has been made on this.

Commissioner Bondareff requested a street name sign on Loop South.

3. Petition for the No Through Traffic restriction on the 1400 block of Quendo.

Sharon Logan, resident at 1336 Waldron, explained the request that a “No Thru Traffic to
Midland Blvd” sign be installed facing north at Quendo/Canton Avenue and a speed limit
sign be installed at same location. Mrs. Logan submitted a petition to the City with over
70% of the property owner’s signatures.

Ms. Logan indicated that the traffic signal has been improved. She is mainly concerned
about safety. Mrs. Logan also included a request for a stop sign at Carlyle at Waldron
facing west.

Mike Miller, 1331 Purdue Avenue
Mr. Miller indicated his position against this petition as it would inconvenience residents at
the 1300 block of Purdue Avenue specially when travelling from Purdue to Wellington. It
will extend travel time twice as much. According to Mr. Miller, University City School
District would have to reroute the bus route. Mr. Miller requested that before this request
is approved, a traffic count south bound be made to document the real need of a No
through traffic. Purdue Avenue would be affected negatively as it has already higher traffic
volume. And the no through traffic restriction would add traffic to Purdue Avenue. In
addition, Waldron Avenue already has a one-way restriction that limits some vehicles to
detour through both Purdue Avenue and Quendo Avenue.

Commissioner Henderson, stated that she is a resident of Purdue Avenue as well, and
would like to express her concern about the additional traffic that will be added to Purdue
Avenue if this petition is approved and no through traffic restriction is implemented. She
explained that Purdue Avenue was negatively impacted by the installation of the barriers
Traffic Commission Minutes – September 14, 2011 Page 5
