Ms. Carter thanked the business owners for attending the meeting and announced that University
City Police Chief, Charles Adams, will attend the next meeting.
Questions/Comments and discussion:
The group agreed that input must be gathered from the youth.
-Many of the kids involved in U City Society are from private schools. It is well
coordinated.
-Kids have to be made aware of what is happening and have to be involved.
-Do we know what kids want? We all must communicate.
-There are programs at the community center. Some things are too expensive for kids to
get involved in.
-Centennial Commons is an adult center. It is for those who can afford it.
-Lowering prices could get more people involved.
-Maybe they could have certain days that are set aside for kids to come.
-Did some of the problems start when kids were kicked out of the malls?
-Yes. From the Galleria.
-Perhaps the city schools could make a point to let the kids know about the curfew in The
Loop.
-We need to find activities for youth – good activities for youth.
-Would kids come to activities?
-Perhaps some programs should be eliminated in order to put money toward programs for
youth.
-Maybe some existing programs need to be re-oriented to be more for youth and not all
geared toward adults.
-Perhaps we need a pilot program in University City. For example, a three-on-three
basketball tournament.
-We need to address University City kids, but not all the kids involved are from University
City.
tm;E
