Traffic Commission

6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146

Commissioner Henderson explained that since each intersection will need to be evaluated
independently, and since data is not available, a recommendation will be provided to the
Commission at the next Traffic Commission Meeting.

Officer Margul explained that Yield signs are used to assign the right of way at
intersections, instead of slowing down traffic. Yield signs also increase safety at
intersections.

Speed data and traffic counts will be provided to Public Works Staff by the Police
Department. Once the data has been received, warrants for each intersection will be
analyzed and staff will provide a recommendation to the Traffic Commission at a future
Traffic Commission meeting.

6. Requests on roads under St.Louis County’s jurisdiction:

Delmar Blvd and Warder Avenue.
Mr. Eric Vanderhoef, resident at 7740 Stanford
Avenue, presented his request to install a crosswalk on Delmar Blvd on the east side of
Warder Avenue. Mr. Vanderhoef’s main concern is related to the vehicles speeding on
Delmar Blvd near Warder Ave and North & South Rd. Subsequently, the inability to safely
walk and cross Delmar around this area is a concern to Mr. Vanderhoef.

Officer Margul suggested removing pedestrian crossing on Delmar Blvd at Center and
installing a new one at Warder Ave. Commissioner Brot agreed with this recommendation.

Commissioner Henderson suggested that speed data and traffic counts be provided to
Public Works Staff by the Police Department. Once the data is received, a
recommendation can be provided to the Commission at the next Traffic Commission
Meeting to send to St. Louis County Highways and Traffic Department for consideration.

Commissioner Nichols made a motion to postpone this item until next meeting when data
is available and then present to the County for consideration. Motion was seconded by
Commissioner Womack and unanimously approved.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Angelica Gutierrez, Public Works Liaison

Traffic Commission Minutes – October 12, 2011 Page 4
