She thought it was important
because the present building is past its 100-year life. Ms. Chappelle-Nadal said she has
seen fire houses on Main Street and in communities. She said she thought it was good
to have a fire house closer to the northern end of the City and a house that has separate
facilities for women and men. Ms. Chappelle-Nadal said the City can spend $800,000
with the grant we’ve received or spend up to three million dollars on a new fire house.

Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel
Ms. Glickert said the point was not do we need a new fire station but rather is this the
right or wrong location for the building. She said Washington University provided the
land to the City since that would put the fire house close to their apartment buildings.
She said Washington University takes 14 million dollars off University City’s tax roll
every year. She said the firehouse should be built on a Washington University-owned
lot next to the Lewis Center.
1
