Mrs. Thompson asked the City
Manager to inform the developer of concerns expressed here.

Mr. Schoomor said the questions raised are the same ones Council is concerned about and awaiting
answers. Mr. Wagnor agreed, reiterating that these concerns be passed on to the developer.

Mayor Adams closed the public hearing at 7:55 p.m.

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE PRESENTATIONS

The five candidates for Third Ward Councilmember made presentations at this time.

Mr. Hardy Ware, 1465 Forest Green Court, said neighborhoods are one of University City's most impor-
tant assets, and strengthening them will enhance all of the City and instill neighborhood pride and
responsibility. He favored continuation of neighborhoods working with the Crime Prevention Unit to
ensure safety and crime-free neighborhoods. He thought he could help neighborhoods obtain better
communication with City Hall since he felt many were unsure of how to do this. He said it was
important to work closely with the School District and schools in the Third Ward. Also, he noted there
were many small businesses in University City, and it was extremely important to help in the revitaliza-
tion of those that needed help, and especially those on Olive Boulevard. If selected, he would work en-
thusiastically and diligently not only for the Third Ward, but all of University City.

Mr. Chuck Finan, 7333 Wellington, said if chosen, he would be very happy to work with the Council.
He said his family has lived here for 13 years, and he enjoyed working with former Mayor Majorus and
several councilmembers on a special project. He has served as president of the Musick Neighborhood
Association, and the group has learned a lot from the City regarding cooperation, perseverance, and
teamwork. He was proud to be part of this group, noting that many other neighborhood groups have
adopted some of Musick's innovative measures.

Mr. O. C. Cames, 1235 Partridge, said there are many things needed in the Third Ward that he would
like to see accomplished. There are problems, such as crime, that should be addressed, and he believed
people must work at problems to solve them and not depend on others. He felt he had some good ideas
for solving some of the problems, and he was willing to take on the responsibilities of serving as Third
Ward councilmember. He said he has had a lot of experience working with people and would be
responsive to their noeds. He thought he could be an asset to the Third Ward.

Mr. Al Stone, 1282 George, said the Partridge Heights Neighborhood Association (he is currently
president) was established in 1987. He said he has worked with this group, which has actively cooperat-
ed with the City for the betterment of the Third Ward, since its inception. He noted Mr. Cames is a past
president. Some of the activities carded out were the elimination of graffiti, doubling the amount of
street cleaning, towing ofunlicensed derelict vehicles, thanking residents who maintain beautiful homes
and yards, developing standards for reporting undesirable conditions in the neighborhood, erection of
