City in Bloom has made University City a beautiful community, and two of its <br />founders, Mary Anne Shaw and Jane Schaefer, and Board President Bob Lewis were present to make <br />spedal awards. Mr. l.~wis said U. City in Bloom is celebrating its tenth anniversary, and one of its yearly <br />traditions is honoring University City businesses that have contributed to the City's beautification. Ms. <br />Schaefer said the first award goes to Chaney's Barbeque, which not only has added significantly to its <br />beamtiful landscaping, but is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. Mike Chaney accepted, and there was <br />a round of applause. Ms. Shaw presented the second award to Canterbury Gardens, which has added <br />gardens, new shrubbery and other landscaping. Mr. Ed Hodges accepted, and there was another round <br />of applause. U. City in Bloom was commended for its wonderful work in this community. <br /> <br />CITY MANAG~R'S..R~PORTS <br /> <br />CONSENT CALENDAR (TEN ITEMS) <br /> <br />Mr. Cotton asked that Consent Calendar Item #2 be removed for later consideration. It was so ordered. <br /> <br />Tree Pruning Contraca (#1). Invitations to bid on pruning 600 City trees were sent to 16 companies, <br />with the following response: <br /> <br />Ray's Tree Service <br />T & L Tree Specialists <br />Droege Tree Care <br />Custom Tree & Lawn <br />Gamma Tree Service <br />Davey Tree Experts <br />Shield Shade Tree Care <br />Omni Tree Service <br /> <br />$56,280.00 <br /> 35,000.00 <br /> 31,200.00 <br /> 30,190.00 <br /> 28,639.00 <br /> 25,200.00 <br /> 24,600.00 <br /> 21,200.00 <br /> <br />No minority/woman owned businesses responded. Budgeted amount was $22,000.00. The recom- <br />mendation is to accept Omni Tree Service's low bid of $21,200.00. <br /> <br />Conditional Use Ame!ndment - 7740 Olive (#3). Higher Heights Christian Church has requested an <br />extension to July, 1996, to extend the pavement at the west wall of their building for a parking area. <br />Approval was recommended since poor weather has prevented the initiation of this project. <br /> <br />Interior Painting - Fire Engine House #1 (#4). Invitations to bid on painting the interior of the second <br />floor of Engine House #1 were sent to 10 contractors, with the following results: <br /> <br />Leicht Painting <br />Herbster-Hellwig Painting <br /> <br />$8,700.00 <br />8,642,00 <br /> <br /> <br />
