Session 170 I, Minutes
July 7, 1997

Mr. Wagner wanted to commend all of the residents and concerned individuals who came out tonight. He thanked the
audience and all of the speakers on both sides of the issue. He said that this was democracy in action and that the Council
was exercising democracy to the best of their abilities. Democracy is never a perfect process. He said that Council thinks
they are doing the best for University City and he thinks that the resolution does that. As he said earlier, there may not be
one person out there that will be happy with everything in the resolution. That is what the Council has to deal with. He
urged his colleagues on the Council to vote for the passage of the amended resolution from June 23rd.

Mrs. Thompson said she agreed in parts with this resolution. She thinks that her colleagues have done a fantastic job in
terms of correcting it, however, she does feel that the residents input is missing from the East-West Gateway meetings.
East-West Gateway is not listening to what the residents want. She thinks they should get tirst hand information from the
residents. She supported an earlier speaker who mentioned that we were probably not going to get MetroUnk in our
lifetimes. We should take a little more time to deal with the residents because it appears that the majority of the residents
have other things that they might want to see in this resolution that is not there now, so it can be done right.

Mayor Adams called the question. The motion carried unanimously. (Applause)
