Also, it is recommended to replace the remaining stop signs with yield signs,
as requested, and per the Public Works-Parks Department’s analysis and finding of
sufficient visibility within the applicable intersection sight triangles to warrant Yield controls
on the minor legs of the intersection.

Commissioner Brot made a motion to remove two (2) of the four (4) stop signs, located on
Milan Avenue and to replace the remaining stop signs with yield sign, seconded by
Commissioner Wofsey and unanimously approved.

Ms. Price expressed that there are other streets and intersections that need yield signs
and that she will email Public Works and Parks staff for further review.

4. Request to install Stop Signs on Cornell Avenue at Benlou Avenue

Commissioner Henderson presented the Public Works and Parks recommendation to
deny the request, and instead, retrofit the stop signs on Benlou Ave, with new retro
reflective signs in the appropriate size and height per MUTCD, and adding two (2) warning
signs on both north and south bound Benlou Ave that read “Cross traffic does not stop”.

Commissioner Wofsey stated that during her earlier observations, the visibility on Benlou
Avenue and Gannon Avenue intersection was less than the visibility on Benlou Avenue
and Cornell Avenue.

Commissioner Wofsey made a motion to deny the request, and instead, retrofit the stop
signs on Benlou Ave, with new retro reflective signs in the appropriate size and height per
MUTCD, and adding two (2) warning signs on both north and south bound Benlou Ave that
read “Cross traffic does not stop”, seconded by Commissioner Brot and unanimously
approved.

Councilmember Carr recommended that the discussion of the Commissioners takes place
after a motion has been moved and before the vote is made.

5. Request to install Stop Signs at the intersection of Kempland Place and Fullerton
Avenue

Commissioner Henderson presented the Public Works and Parks recommendation to
install a stop sign on Fullerton Avenue at Kempland Pl.

Hazel Erby - 8340 Fullerton Ave.
Mrs. Erby stated that during the past years this intersection has been a concern of her and
her family, and is satisfied with the recommendation for approval. The volume of traffic
traveling on that intersection in her opinion is from residents of University City cutting
through this neighborhood.
Traffic Commission Minutes – July 11, 2012 Page 3
