SESSION 1698 <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />JUNE 9, 1997 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Courtall of University City held in the Council Chamber of City Hall on <br />Monday, May 19, 1997, Councilmember Robert G. Wagner called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In <br />addition to Mr. Wagner, the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br />Mr. Wayne I. Munkel <br />Mr. Lawrence Lieberman <br />Mr. Patti E. Schoomer <br />Mrs. Betty Thompson <br /> <br />ABSENT: Mayor Adams was excused due to illness. Mr. Hardy Ware was excused due to being out of <br />town. <br /> <br />Also present was City Manager Frank Ollendorff. <br /> <br />DESIGNATION OF MAYOR PRO TEM: <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer moved the election of Mr. Wagner as Mayor Pro Tern for this meeting. Mr. Munkel <br />seconded the motion. The following voted AYE: Mr. Schoomer, Mr. Lieberman and Mr. Munkel. Mrs. <br />Thompson voted NAY. <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson said that she wanted to explain, otherwise she would have to leave. Mrs. Thompson <br />said she was opposed because she had been a Councilmember for eighteen years, was the only woman <br />on the Council and the senior member on the Council. It had always been the tradition that the senior <br />Councilmember sit as Mayor Pro Tem during the Mayor's absence. She thought that the audience <br />shotfid know that these were her reasons for abstaining. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer said that there was no rule or precedent. It is at the discretion of Council who would be <br />elected Mayor Pro Tem. <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson said that she resents that fact. She said that she had served the City Council for <br />eighteen years. She is sorry, but she resents not being given the opportunity to serve as Mayor Pro <br />Wem. <br /> <br />The motion carried three to one. <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson left the meeting at 7:35 p.m. <br /> <br />MINUTES: <br /> <br />Mr. Lieberman noted some changes that shotfid be made to the minutes of May 12th, under the Budget <br />Message, 1st paragraph, 4th line down, .032 should be changed to .32. On page three, under 721.10, <br />5% shotfid be changed to .05. On page 4, under 20. I0 Police Department, Mr. Lieberman would like <br />the informal term "vid cam" to be completely spelled out to "video camera". <br /> <br /> <br />
