SESSION 1654 <br /> <br />MI/~3TES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY ~L <br /> <br /> November 6, 1995 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council of University City held in the Coun- <br />cil Chamber of city Hall c~ Monday, November 6, 1995, Mayor Janet Majerus <br />presi__~d~__ and called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the <br />Mayor, the following members of the Oouncil w~re present: <br /> <br />Mr. George R. C~%tc~ <br />Mr. Joseph L. ;u~m~, Jr. <br />Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br />Mrs. Mary V. Schuman <br /> <br />Also present was City Manager Frank Ollendorff. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner moved approval of the October 23, 1995, minutes as submitted. Mr. <br />Cotton seconded the motion, which carried unanimmmly. <br /> <br />~FODGNTTTON OF ~0UTH VOT[]NT'~ ~ <br /> <br />Mr. Andy Woods, 7187 ~, said an athletic organization was formed a <br />year ago with the goal of using sports and recreation as a positive tool to <br />create opportunities for University City children and to ~ge c~munity <br />servioe. An offshoot of the gruup called "Loop It Up" ban brought youths in- <br />to the Loop every Saturday and Sunday for over four months to pick up litter. <br />The group has met with Loop merdmants to relate what they are doing, and the <br />merdmants have been very supportive--St. Louis Bread_ Co. and Fitz's have <br />vided breakfasts and Squad One has given T-shirts. Mr. Woods introduced the <br />boys--Wayne Williams, Brian, Allen and Chris Douthit, Wilber Moore, Jc~n <br />Bass, Van Jordan, Emery Mays, and James Woods. He said the boys feel they <br />have made the c~,,,~,nity a better place. There was sustained applause. Mayor <br />Majerus thanked the group for coming and for their wonderful work. <br /> <br />~OFO~ <br /> <br />Mr. R. Gordon Myers, recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Uni- <br />formed and Non-Uniformed Employees Retirement Funds, was given the oath of <br />office by the City Clerk. Mayor Majerus thanked Mr. Myers, adding that the <br />boards and ~m,,~sions are of inestimable value to the Council and tb~ opera- <br />tion of the City. <br /> <br />Mr. Corey Shapiro, Washington University student representative to the Ooun- <br />cil, said last Friday about 100 w~en took part in a very ~_ccessful "Take <br />Back the Night" march frcm the Loop to tb~ campus, where they had a forum on <br />issues affectin~ them. There was also a men's forum on campus where they <br /> <br /> <br />
