Traffic Commission 6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146 A G E N D A TO: Members of the Traffic Commission FROM: Angelica Gutierrez, Project Manager DATE: September 18, 2012 September 24, 2012 SUBJECT: Traffic Commission Meeting September 24, 2012 The next Traffic Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. at the Heman Park Community Center located at 975 Pennsylvania Avenue. Prior to the meeting, we recommend that you visit the site(s). Please call (314) 505-8568 or email agutierrez@ucitymo.org to confirm your attendance. AGENDA FOR THE MEETING 1. Approval of Minutes August 8, 2012. 2. Request to remove parking in front of 505 North and South Rd Please find attached Traffic Request Form submitted on July 2, 2012 by Loy Ledbetter, resident at 505 North and South Rd, Apt #3C, requesting to allow parking on the west side of North and South Rd between the driveway for 505 North and South and the Clayton City Limits, for about 40 ft. (two car lengths). Currently there is a parking restriction at the requested location in place to allow visibility from residents driving from the 505 North and South private driveway to access North and South Rd both northbound and southbound. This request will reduce visibility to the turning movement from residents exiting through the driveway and it could represent a traffic safety hazard. The Public Works and Parks Department recommend keeping the parking restriction in place for traffic safety. 3. Request for comments to a proposal to reconfigure the 6500 block of Plymouth from a “Through street” to a “Cul-de-sac” Please find attached Traffic Request Form submitted on August 21, 2012 by Earl Newman, representative of Metropolitan Development Group, requesting input from the Traffic Commission on the concept to change the traffic configuration of the 6500 block of Plymouth from a “Through Street” to a “Cul-de-sac”. The idea of this concept is mainly to create a safe environment/neighborhood feel and subsequently stimulate the economic growth of this area of University City. A presentation with this concept will be provided to the Commission at the time of the meeting and more information will be presented then. The Public Works and Parks Department requests that comments be provided to Mr. Newman regarding support to this concept and any other recommendations to keep this idea moving forward. It is recommended that a traffic study be completed by the developer to understand the impacts of this closure on the nearby streets and alleys. This would include the Fire Department, Police Department and Solid Waste Division input on how these City operations will be affected or can be accommodated. 4. Request to install a pedestrian crosswalk on Ferguson Ave at Crest Avenue Please find attached Traffic Request Form submitted on August 21, 2012 by Karl Scheidt, representing the School District of University City, requesting that a new crosswalk be installed on Ferguson at Crest Avenue. The University City Municipal Code Section 10.36.050 – School and Playground stops designated includes Ferguson Avenue at Crest Avenue as a location for a School and Playground stop which means that traffic www.ucitymo.org 1
