Session 1651, Minutes <br />Segtember 11, 1995 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Mr. Corey Shapiro, W~.~gton University student representative to the City <br />Oouncil, said ~he school year is well under way. He suggested that a French <br />channel on cable television would be a great asset and very helpful to stu- <br />dents. He said the City Manager's office has been very helpful in giving him <br />information about the recycling program, addin~ that the current Student Life <br />bas an interesting article on this subject. <br /> <br />HEARING - ma~NG/SI~ <br /> <br />The City Manager said a public hearin~ was set for 7:30 p.m. this place and <br />date to receive "c~mmmYcs on a propoeed amendment to the zoning ordinance that <br />would permit businesses on the second floor of Loop buildings to have larger <br />signs identifying entries to those businesses. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus c~ the public hearin~ at 8:20 p.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Robin LeVan, Executive Director of the U. City Loop Special Business Dis- <br />trict, said merchants in the district would like to have the zoning ordinance <br />amend_~d to allc~ identifying signs for second floor businesses as specified <br />above. She said all first floor spaces were currently rented, which leaves <br />only the upper levels available; without signage, second floor businesses are <br />difficult to find. Ms. LeVan also discussed the Loop in Motion Festival <br />scheduled for October 6, 7, and 8. <br /> <br />Ms. Robhie Ashe, I%obbie's Leather Goods, 6376 Delmar (second floor) said it <br />w-us very important that those visiting the Loop be able to find businesses <br />located above street level. She said awnings would be very nice; also, the <br />i__~m~__ of a marq~ was raised. She asked Oouncil to change the code so that <br />second floor businesses can be more easily identified. <br /> <br />Tbmre were no other requests to speak and the hearing was closed at 8:25 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoc~_r asked that a bill be prepared changing the Sign Code based on <br />the language specified by the Plan C~.,.,~.~sion in its last meeting. <br /> <br />SEITING PUBLIC ~3~RING - LIOUOR LIC~TSE/616 N. MCKNIGHT <br /> <br />The City Manager r~nc~m~nded that a public hearing be set for 7:30 p.m. Octo- <br />ber 2, 1995, in the Council chamber to consider a liquor license for Gallery <br />616, a banquet and catering firm. The applicant submitted a petition signed <br />by the only pr~ owner within 200 feet of the facility and a majority of <br /> <br />Council. The a~licant appears to meet all ordinance requ~, and while <br />not previously licensed, the applicant has experience in servin~ alcoholic <br />beverages and has a staff with liquor management experience. <br /> <br />about thismatteraswellasthe8400and8500 blocks ofGannon, 700block of <br />Berick, 700 block of N.
