Also she stated the State <br />Department of Education received a Federal waiver from the U.S.l Department of <br />Education so the University School District is no long held under the sanctions of <br />“No Child Left Behind”. A part of the waiver mandates that the School District <br />realign its Superintendent, principal, and teacher reevaluation tools to be aligned <br />for accountability for student performance. Ms. Pruitt said the District will be <br />seeking input from the Community towards developing a new vision and mission <br />statement to be more in tune with the Common Core/Smarter Balance and other <br />requirements from the State Department of Education. <br /> <br />Mr. Price stated how delighted he was with the results of University City School <br />District being fully accredited and acknowledged the hard work that was done to <br />obtaining this great achievement. Mr. Price commended the entire School Board <br />leadership and staff (present and past) in moving forward. <br /> <br />3. Youth Employment Program (YEP) updates <br />Mr. Walker gave a summary of the University City Youth Employment Program. <br />He stated the participants’ numbers were doubled from 10 last year to 20 this year. <br />Mr. Walker stated each year the City tries to enhance the program. Educational <br />programs and seminars were included this year, on topics such as money <br />management, resume writing, and interviewing skills. They were also able to solicit <br />Junior Achievement and Etiquette St. Louis to assist in those seminars. Mr. Walker <br />noted the program was very successful. The youth worked in every part of the City <br />and received valuable skills and career development assistance. <br /> <br />4. Asphalt Rejuvenation and Restorative Seal Project recommended to be awarded to <br />Corrective Asphalt Materials for $56,740.00 <br />Mr. Walker stated they advertised for bids and there was only one bid submitted <br />from Corrective Asphalt Materials. <br /> <br />Mr. Crow asked since there was only one bid if the City should review the process <br />of how bids were posted in order to receive more bids for City projects. <br /> <br />Mr. Wilson stated that rejuvenation process was usually done by regional <br />contractors and Corrective Asphalt Materials is the only contractor in our region, <br />covering all the territory up to Chicago. <br /> <br />Mr. Price moved to accept Corrective Asphalt Materials’ bid of $56,740.00, was <br />seconded by Mr. Crow and the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />5. Sidewalk and Curb Ramp design recommended giving City Manager authority to <br />sign contract with the consultant, Engineering Design Source, Inc. <br />Mr. Walker stated that the City was in the process of installing detailed engineering <br />curb ramp design to meet the ADA requirements. He said they put out request <br />qualifications and the budget for this work was $35,000. Mr. Walker recommended <br />the Council grant authority to the City Manager to sign and enter into a contract <br />with Engineering Design Source, Inc. <br />Mr. Sharpe moved to grant authority to the City Manager to sign a contract with <br />Engineering Design Source, Inc., was seconded by Mr. Glickert and the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
