A cost estimate for a speed table will be
obtained to further evaluate its feasibility. Commissioner Brot mentioned the
opposition that Fire Department and emergency vehicles have in regards to this
installation of a raised crosswalk. Officer Margul confirmed that only private
subdivisions have speed bumps in University City and that the emergency
responders (Police and Fire) do not prefer to have obstructions on the County and
City streets, which can lengthen the response time.


Commissioner Wofsey asked a question regarding the request to reconfigure the
6500 block of Plymouth from a “Through street” to a “Cul-de-sac”. Her question
referred to the closure on the west side of Avalon Ave. Jay Simon, representative of
Metropolitan Development Group, responded that some land acquisition will have to
take place to open access to the west side of Avalon Ave. Commissioner
Traffic Commission Minutes – September 24, 2012 Page 1
