Boards, Commissions and Task Force Minutes <br /> Mayor Welsch noted that the Council had received copies of Boards, Commissions <br />and Task Force minutes. <br /> <br />4. Other Discussions/Business <br /> <br /> Citizen Task Force on Crime Prevention and Awareness, requested by mayor <br />Welsch and Mr. Glickert. <br />Mayor Welsch stated that this was removed from discussion since Mr. Glickert <br />was not able to attend and he was its co-sponsor. <br /> <br />Mr. Price said he did not realize Mayor Welsch was going to remove the <br />discussion regarding the crime issues, but still wanted discuss his concerns. He <br />said he believed at the last meeting it was budgeted to increase the police force <br />and believed the correct number of police officers to be added yet would be seven. <br />Mr. Price also stated that the Police Chief had suggestions in the summary report <br />that would help University City to be more effective, such as having more <br />surveillance cameras in the Loop; to have residence use a security system, if <br />possible; to have more security audits; to make use of the anonymous tip hot line; <br />to consider neighborhood watch programs; and not to leave items visible in their <br />car. Mr. Price said the largest percentage of crime activity in University City was <br />larceny. Mr. Price asked the City Manager to discuss with Brighton a strategic <br />plan to help the Council market the Police focus groups to get more people <br />involved in providing crime prevention strategies; to increase the frequency of <br />Police focus group meetings, possibly by rotating locations; and to promote <br />awareness of the Citizens Police Academy. Mr. Price stated that the Nuisance <br />Law is another strategic strategy that could be streamlined to help prevent violent <br />crimes in the neighborhood. He asked if there could be a shorter training course <br />for the Citizens Police Academy. Mr. Price also mentioned neighborhood watch <br />programs, but did suggest that no new programs were needed but rather the need <br />was to get more involved in the programs the City already has. <br /> <br /> <br /> Goal Setting – Council’s Retreat, November 3, 2012, Summary Report by Mayor <br />Welsch and Mr. Glickert. <br />Mayor Welsch announced that the City Council held a “Goal Setting Session” on <br />November 3, 2012. She said the Council received a summary of what was <br />discussed and noted that if the public would like to receive a copy of the Goal <br />Setting document, to please contact the City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br /> Chronic absenteeism on Boards and Commissions, requested by Ms. Carr and <br />Mr. Crow. <br />Ms. Carr said that both staff and commission chairs have mentioned that some <br />members do not show or call when not going to be in attendance and it can cause <br />a problem in getting a quorum together for a meeting. <br /> <br />Ms. Carr said the suggestion from City Attorney Mr. Martin and City Manager Mr. <br />Walker would be to send a letter reminding the person of their volunteer position <br />5 <br /> <br /> <br />
