Ms. Carr also thanked the Mayor’s Task Force on Bike and Walkability. She stated
Council did not always agree on their outcome, but she appreciated their hard work.
Ms. Carr said the plan was phenomenal and their hearts were in it. She felt that the
Council could produce a resolution that would make everyone proud. Ms. Carr also
th
congratulated COCA on their 25 year. She said their presentation was fantastic and it
almost inspired her to take a hip-hop class for adults.

Mayor Welsch piggy-backed on Mr. Walker’s comments regarding Fire Chief Miner for
his 32 years of service to University. She also stated that she hoped everyone
understood what a commitment of 32 years was to a community such as University City.
Mayor Welsch said the City’s emergency services personnel have chosen a hard career
and the City appreciates their work.

Mayor Welsch said she spoke last Thursday at the Conservation Forum at the St. Louis
Zoo, sponsored by the Whitney and Anna Harris World Ecology Center. She said she
spoke about the efforts University City has put forth in sustainability for many years and
she noted her talk was well received. She said she learned a lot when she was
compiling information on all the efforts over the past years of how much the City has
accomplished. She said one of the organizers stated that it was clear that University
City is a leader in the effort towards sustainability. Mayor Welsch stated she was happy
to represent University City. Mayor Welsch said she talked to the fifth graders at
Barbara C. Jordan School about becoming active members in their community. She
also took a tour of the University City Children’s Center last week and got an update of
their plans for the Vernon facility. Mayor Welsch said, unfortunately she had to miss the
COCA event because she attended another event at the same time for the Epworth
Center. Mayor Welsch apologized for not being able to be there, but stated that the
community support shown at the Epworth Center and their commitment to stay in
University City was gratifying and she was glad to have them here in our City.

Q. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Shelley Welsch adjourned the meeting at 7:38 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Joyce Pumm, MRCC/CMC
City Clerk,
9
