Boards, Commissions and Task Force Minutes
Mayor Welsch stated that City Council received copies of the Board and Commission
minutes in their packets

4. Other Discussions/Business

Cancellation of City Council meeting March 24, 2013 due to the start of Passover
requested by Mr. Kraft and Mayor Welsch

Mr. Kraft asked if the Council meeting on March 24, 2013, be cancelled due to it
being the first night of Passover.

Mr. Price stated that the date of a meeting has been moved in the past, but not
cancelled.

Mr. Crow stated that they should cancel the meeting and was hopeful they could
make a further outreach to the community in being respectful when developing
the University City calendar along with the incorrect election date on the calendar.

Mr. Walker stated that staff does outreach to the community and tried to make
sure that all of the holidays and events were noted in the calendar. He also
stated that all members of City Council were circulated with a draft calendar for
comment before it was produced.

Mr. Kraft made a motion that March 24, 2013, City Council meeting be cancelled
and was seconded by Mr. Price.

Mayor Welsch clarified that March 25, 2013, was the first day of Passover not the
th
24. She noted that March 25, 2013, was the meeting date that would be
cancelled.

Mr. Kraft corrected his motion to have the March 25, 2013; City Council meeting
cancelled and was seconded by Mr. Price.

Mr. Crow remarked that the City Manager made the comment that it was now the
City Council’s job to proof the calendar, but at the end of the day, someone has to
take responsibility for the calendar.

Mr. Walker addressed Mr. Crow’s comment stating Mr. Crow has made the same
comment in past meetings. Mr. Walker stated that staff has circulated documents
to Councilmembers, which allowed Mr. Crow the opportunity to comment, but he
does not do that but rather comes to Council meetings and chooses to take an
opportunity to poke at staff when it was unnecessary and uncalled for.

Mr. Kraft gave an example of looking at the calendar. He said just like Hebrew
that goes from right to left, the Jewish days start at sunset so when the holiday
thth
starts the 26, it really starts at sundown of the 25, so it is confusing.

The motion to cancel the scheduled Council meeting on March 25 carried
unanimously.
7
