proposed roundabout and edges of the refuge islands.
- Planter Boxes to be provided by the Street and Parks Division to be placed inside the roundabout.
- Demolition of both octagonal islands and careful removal of the two (2) five-globe streetlights.
- Traffic Control will be provided for two (2) days. One (1) day for the installation of the asphalt curb
around the refuge islands and one (1) day for the installation of the roundabout.
- Existing pavement markings removal and installation of new pavement markings for the roundabout.
- Existing sign removal and installation of new signs for new roundabout
- After 30-days trial, the asphalt curbs, pavement markings and planter boxes will be removed and
previous pavement markings and signs will be restored.

This proposal was presented to the Historic Preservation Commission at their April 18, 2013 meeting and was
recommended for approval. This commission is required to review all improvement in any Historic District. In
this case, the district is “University City Civic Complex Historic” which encompasses this intersection.

St. Louis County Highways and Traffic has jurisdiction on Delmar Blvd from the Lion monuments to the west,
therefore we presented the plan for their review and approval. Their comments were received as an approving
agency and the City will have to comply with their requirements. St. Louis County comments include details
regarding the type of materials to be used and requirements for the contractor to do the work related to traffic
control and installations on the County’s right-of-way (ROW). There is a condition for the City to remove the
roundabout if the traffic safety and congestion is negatively impacted on Delmar Blvd west of the Lion
Monuments to the west. Cost estimates are being prepared and this item will have to be presented to the City
Council for review and approval.

8. Annual Report

Please find attached a report with all items presented to the Traffic Commission for the last year and their

status, as requested.

9. Council Liaison Report – Councilmember Carr.

10. Miscellaneous Business – None

11. Adjournment.

Cc: Richard Wilson, Director of Public Works and Parks
Captain Michael Ransom, Police Department
Paulette Carr, City Council Liaison
www.ucitymo.org 3
