proposed roundabout and edges of the refuge islands. <br />- Planter Boxes to be provided by the Street and Parks Division to be placed inside the roundabout. <br />- Demolition of both octagonal islands and careful removal of the two (2) five-globe streetlights. <br />- Traffic Control will be provided for two (2) days. One (1) day for the installation of the asphalt curb <br />around the refuge islands and one (1) day for the installation of the roundabout. <br />- Existing pavement markings removal and installation of new pavement markings for the roundabout. <br />- Existing sign removal and installation of new signs for new roundabout <br />- After 30-days trial, the asphalt curbs, pavement markings and planter boxes will be removed and <br />previous pavement markings and signs will be restored. <br /> <br />This proposal was presented to the Historic Preservation Commission at their April 18, 2013 meeting and was <br />recommended for approval. This commission is required to review all improvement in any Historic District. In <br />this case, the district is “University City Civic Complex Historic” which encompasses this intersection. <br /> <br />St. Louis County Highways and Traffic has jurisdiction on Delmar Blvd from the Lion monuments to the west, <br />therefore we presented the plan for their review and approval. Their comments were received as an approving <br />agency and the City will have to comply with their requirements. St. Louis County comments include details <br />regarding the type of materials to be used and requirements for the contractor to do the work related to traffic <br />control and installations on the County’s right-of-way (ROW). There is a condition for the City to remove the <br />roundabout if the traffic safety and congestion is negatively impacted on Delmar Blvd west of the Lion <br />Monuments to the west. Cost estimates are being prepared and this item will have to be presented to the City <br />Council for review and approval. <br /> <br />8.
