She stated the Comprehensive Plan of 2005
stated that George should be improved. Ms. McQueen said it looked like a beat-up
alley and is an embarrassment for University City. She asked the Council to have
within the budget at least the estimated cost to improve George St, which she has
been told would cost $180,000.

Edward McCarthy, 7101 Princeton
Mr. McCarthy stated the Council’s compensation should be increased to $6,000 and
$9,000 per year, with possibility of future raises, as it has been the same amount for a
long time. He said he knew it required a vote of the people but still would tell Council
to do it next April. He said it would be a nice item for the Mayor’s race. Secondly he
stated the City was violating the Hancock amendment by having trash bills that are
collecting more revenue than it costs for the trash department. He suggested putting
this on the ballot too. Mr. McCarthy told Ms. Carr that he has been looking at the
budget for ten years and he still does not understand some of it and if she could do it
in two weeks she was a better person than him.

BILLS
Introduced by Mr. Price
2. He said it was an embarrassment to see that in U
City. He encouraged the City to improve George.

P. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mr. Glickert asked the City Clerk to put an arrow on the microphone for the next meeting
so speakers know which button to push. He said he attended the Joint Economic
Development Retail Sales Tax meeting which was held at 4:00 p.m. and wanted to
publically state that when there is a public hearing it should be held in the evening for all
of the citizens to have the opportunity to participate. Mr. Glickert said the Chamber of
Commerce preferred the earlier time but he felt the citizenry needed to have the
opportunity to go to a meeting after work. Mr. Glickert also noted that University City’s
dog park was voted the best in the area from Springfield, IL to Springfield, MO. He
10
