SESSION 1690 <br /> <br /> MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> MARCH 24, 1997 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council of University City held in the Council Chamber of City Hall on Monday, March 24, <br />1997, Mayor Joseph L. Adams called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the Mayor, the following members of <br />the Council were present: <br /> <br /> Mr. Wayne I. Munkel <br /> Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br /> Mr. Lawrence Lieberman <br /> Mr. Paul E. Schoomer <br /> Mrs. Betty Thompson <br /> <br />Mr. Hardy Ware was excused. Also present was City Manager Frank Ollendorff. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner moved approval of the February 24th regular meeting minutes. Mr. Lieberman seconded and all voted aye. <br />Mr. Schoomer moved approval of the March 12th special meeting minutes. Mr. Wagner seconded and all voted aye. <br />PROCI AMATION - ARBOR DAY: <br /> <br />Mayor Adams stated that in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set <br />aside for the planting of trees. Being that University City is one of the great tree cities of the United States, the Mayor <br />subsequently declared that Friday, April 4, 1997 would be Arbor Day in University City. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS; <br /> <br />Mayor Adams moved the appointment of Mr. Ken Schuman, 7006 Maryland, to the Industrial Development Authority filling <br />an unexpired term ending August 27, 1999. Mr. Wagner seconded, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />OATHS OF OFFICE <br /> <br />The following new or reappointed members of the City's boards or commissions were given the oath of of~ce by the City <br />Clerk: Dr. Robert Checkley - Industrial Development Authority. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams wished to express his sincere thanks to Dr. Checkley for his wish to serve on this important commission. Dr. <br />Checkley's service along with the efforts of other citizens whom serve on the City's boards and commissions truly help the <br />City to function, as well as being an invaluable resource to the City Council. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S RFPORTS: <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION - ADDITION TO CITY SENIOR STAFF <br /> <br />City Manager Frank Ollendorff introduced Gregory Rose, the new Assistant to the City Manager, who is starting his second <br />week with the City. Mr. Ollendorff invited Council and citizens to feel free to contact Mr. Rose for future assistance. <br /> <br />CONSENT CALENDAR (6 ITEMS) <br /> <br />City Manager explained that the Consent Calendar usually contained items that did not generally require discussion and <br /> <br /> <br />
