<br /> <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />August 15, 2013 Meeting Minutes <br />(approved 9/19/2013) <br /> <br />The Historic Preservation Commission held their regular meeting in the Heman Park Community <br />Center located at 975 Pennsylvania Avenue, University City, Missouri on August 15, 2013. The <br />meeting commenced at 7:05 pm. <br /> <br />Voting Members Present Voting Members Absent (excused) <br />Chris Smith, Chairperson Richard Wesenberg <br />Donna Marin Jane North <br />Carol Schmidt James Guest <br />Steve Myers <br /> <br />Non-Voting Members Present <br />Michael Glickert, Council Liaison <br /> <br />Staff Present <br />Zach Greatens, Planner <br />Raymond Lai, Deputy Director of Economic and Community Development <br /> <br />1. Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Minutes of the previous meeting (July 18, 2013) were accepted as written. <br /> <br />2. 7401 Balson Avenue Design review for proposed removal of clay tile roof on University <br />City High School gymnasiums and replacement with asphalt shingles in the University City <br />Education Complex Historic District (Local Historic District and National Register of <br />Historic Places) <br /> <br />Mr. Greatens provided background information, pictures and maps for the project. He explained <br />ver, it was <br />a new application. He stated that the proposal was to replace the clay tile roof on both <br />gymnasiums with red asphalt shingles and the request was for a recommendation to the <br />Department of Community Development. <br /> <br />Mr. Greatens stated that the proposal came to the attention of Department of Community <br />Development staff as part of a building permit submitted on June 27, 2013, at which time a <br />variety of repairs to the high school building were proposed. Per the Zoning Code, the major <br />roof work proposed required Historic Preservation Commission review prior to building permit <br />approval. <br /> <br />Mr. Greatens stated that at the July 18 Historic Preservation Commission meeting, the <br />Commission members recommended denial of the application without prejudice so that the <br />request could come back before the Commission. He added that a report was provided by the <br />Chairperson, as required in the Zoning Code, regarding the denial of the request and that report <br />was previously distributed to the Commission members. <br />tm; <br /> E <br /> <br />
