HIST~e~IC I~ EST~RT.TSHED" SO AS <br /> <br />Mr. Alfred Henneboehle, 10 S. Broadway, attorney for the Archdiocese (owner <br />of Salo~x~ House), said t_hare have been extensive discussions between the <br />Archdiocese and Historic Preservation C~L~dssic~ in trying to reach a com- <br />promise satisfactory to all. The Archdiocese has no objection to the house <br />being designated an historic landmark; however, it does object to the entire <br />property being named an historic district. He said the bill seemed to have <br />sc~e inconsistencies that should be resolved, and suggested ~ahling it and <br />introducing a new bill after the q"ruups have decided hcw much property will <br />be included as part of the landmark designation. <br /> <br />MS. Mary Henderson Gass, 6304 Westminster, Historic Preservation Cun~l~ssion <br />chair, said she felt the C~,u~ssion and the Archdiocese will be able to reach <br />a mutually satisfactory c~,~.~se on the proposed designation. Ihe Mayor <br />askM if another public hearing is necessary, and Mr. Ollendorff said only if <br />the district boundaries were enlarged. Ma. Gass said she thought the bounda- <br />ries would be smaller, but other building restrictions may be necessary. She <br />said another issue was that the stained glass windows in the chapel which <br />were part of the designation have already been removed. In addition, there <br />are exterior items for which a building permit has been obtained--window re- <br />placement, aluminum soffits, etc.; however, the Archdiocese has agreed not to <br />do those items until an et is ready. and she asked that the Planning <br /> <br />Mr. Price moved that consideration of Bill No. 8156 be postponed. Mr. Wagner <br />seconded the motion. It was noted that language in the bill will be amended <br />as agreed to by all parties. Mayor Majerus asked what assurances could be <br />given that no further actions such as removing the stained glass windows will <br /> <br />Mr. John Wiley, president of Catholic Charities of St. Louis, assured Mayor <br />Majerus that nothing will be removed or no significant char~es made until <br />beth parties cede to an amicable agreepat. <br /> <br /> <br />
