Session 1774
February 7, 2000

allow them access from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on holidays and weekends. One lady was
concerned with the fact that children under 12 could not enter the Recreation facility
without a U. City adult accompanying them. The commission voted to keep the same
rules, mostly for ease of control and for the safety of the kids. A volunteer boxing coach
wanted to use a U. City facility to train kids. Currently, he is taking them over to a
Pagedale gym. He has fifteen U. City kids enrolled right now. The commission suggested
that he go to the School District and ask them, because the City does not have the facilities
to set up a ring. They had an election of officers, which remains the same as last year:
Steve Poplawski - President, Ben Senturia - V. President and Caryn St. Clair - Treasurer.
They talked about the fees for Summer Camp and they voted to keep them the same as last
year. Mr. Rose presented a request to have the Park Commission join with City staff in
endorsing a solicitation to the City Council to establish a donation to COCA scholarship
fund, which will be presented on the agenda later this evening.

Ms. Colquitt reported that the Pension Board of Trustees had met and under the Non-
Uniformed plan, three applications for membership were accepted and approved and there
were no applications under the Police and Fireman's plan. There is a proposed study of the
ICMA's proposed plan. The plan is quite costly, but the committee did agree to go forward
on the actuary's base study and alternatives of different levels. CALOP had their Academy
Awards on January 20th and it was wonderful. ATT Cable will be running the event on
Channel 3,

Mr. Munkel reported that at the last Library Board meeting they were able to see the results
of a couple of grants that the Library was awarded. They were able to buy a couple of large
LaserJet printers for the main and upstairs area. Some of the funds will be used to link the
terminals to these new printers. Oversized keyboards will also be purchased for older
patrons use. The Library is one of the few places in U. City where we have public access to
the Internet. The grants are helping to increase the number of terminals available for public
Internet access. The board is also considering the purchase of a credit card for traveling
and small purchases. The next meeting is tomorrow and it is a public meeting.

Mr. Wagner, liaison to the Plan Commission, reported that there was no meeting in
January.

Mayor Adams, liaison to LCRA, IDA and TIF, reported that these boards did not meet in
January.

CONGRATULATIONS TO U. CITY POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS:

Mayor Adams asked Mr. Ollendorff to extend his congratulations on the police department's
diligent work in bringing about the quick resolution of a crime that recently happened at the

3
