<br />Traffic Commission <br />6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 505-8560, Fax: (314) 862-0694 <br />Karl Scheidt, Executive Director of Operations (petitioner) presented a petition from University City <br />School District to establish a bus parking zone on the west side of Jackson Ave from Balson Ave to <br />Shaftesbury Ave. <br />Mr. Alpaslan explained that staff agrees with this petition. He further explained that per the City of <br />University City’s code stopping, standing, or parking within an intersection (Dorset & Jackson) which is <br />between Balson and Shaftesbury, is not allowed. Nevertheless, since Jackson is such a wide street <br />this would be allowed. Mr. Alpaslan explained alternatives to delineate the bus lane, in case there is a <br />negative impact by the use of the parking lane on Jackson Ave. <br />Commissioner Brot made a motion to adopt the proposal for the purpose of safety to enhance the <br />access at the location of Jackson Avenue between Balson Ave and Shaftesbury Ave, to allow buses to <br />park from 6:00am to 8:00am and from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Monday thru Friday. Motion was seconded <br />by Commissioner Creer, and unanimously approved. <br /> <br />7. Midland Crosswalk request <br /> <br />Jeremy O’Hara (petitioner) requested to create a marked pedestrian crosswalk on Midland Ave at <br />Shaftesbury Ave. at the main entrance to Heman Park. There are no marked pedestrian crosswalks on <br />Midland Ave between Vernon and Olive Blvd. There is one pedestrian crosswalk on Midland Ave <br />between Vernon and Delmar Blvd at Cornell. <br />Commissioner Hales expressed his support for this petition. Commissioner Hales made a motion to <br />accept the request as written and that staff look into the feasibility of County doing a pedestrian signal <br />with solar lighting and with additional safety features. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Creer, <br />and was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />8. FYI - Bicycle Facilities Improvement Project <br /> <br />The City received a Surface Transportation grant through the Missouri Transportation Commission to <br />upgrade bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout the City in accordance with the City's Bicycle and <br />Pedestrian Plan. This project will include the installation of Sharrows and Bicycle Route <br />signage. Sharrows are painted, full-lane width shared lane markings with Share-the-Road <br />signs. Sharrows can be utilized when dedicated bicycle lanes are not possible. Sharrows will be <br />installed at the following locations: <br />nd <br /> <br /> Canton Ave from 82 to Pennsylvania Ave <br /> <br /> Old Bonhomme from Groby Rd to South City Limits <br /> <br /> Jackson Ave from Delmar Blvd to Shaftesbury Ave <br /> <br />9. FY 2013 Annual Report - Draft <br /> <br />Draft of the FY 2014 Annual Report was provided to the Commission’s information. One item <br />correction was made regarding Old Bonhomme and Lafon/Crandon intersection study, requested by <br />Commissioner Brot. <br /> <br />10.
