Session 1514, Minutes Page 8 ILle March 12, 1990 Mr. Art MMKoon, manager of A Collector's Bookshop, 6275 Delmar, said he has seen people run into by skateboarders, usually by accident but at least once on purpose. He felt that the large number of skateboarders kept patrons from browsing and shopping, which hurts the Loop and University City. He too sug- gested that a place be found for skateboarders to play. Mr. Adams asked haw this ordinance will be enforced. Mr. 011endorff said whatever is specified in the ordinance will be followed. Ms. Barbara Maloney, owner of Meli-Melo, 6635 Delmar, said the issue of prop- erty damage has not been addressed. She said until recently she did not feel skateboarders were a problem, however, they were now traveling in groups of four to twenty teenagers and young adults who were monopolizing certain areas of the Loop, preventing families and others frau enjoying themselves, and do- ing damage to planters and buildings. } Mr. Price said he also had witnessed some recent vandalism by skateboarders. Mr. Adams noted that several speakers suggested establishing a skateboard area but a major drawback would be the cost of liability insurance. BILL NO. 7951 - VACATING A PARCEL OF LAND LOCATED ON THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF GANNON AVENUE AND OLD BONHOMME ROAD ADJACENT TO LOT 29 OF BLOCK 1 OF OAKBROOK FOREST SUBDIVISION, RESERVING PUBLIC UTILITY EASEMENTS AND DIRECTING THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE RECORDED IN THE OFFICE OF THE ST. Bill No. 7952 was given its second reading. Bill No. 7952 was given its third reading. Mrs. Thompson nerved that this bill be adopted as an ordinance. Mrs. Schuman seconded the motion.
