He felt that the large number of skateboarders kept patrons from <br /> browsing and shopping, which hurts the Loop and University City. He too sug- <br /> gested that a place be found for skateboarders to play. <br /> Mr. Adams asked haw this ordinance will be enforced. Mr. 011endorff said <br /> whatever is specified in the ordinance will be followed. <br /> Ms. Barbara Maloney, owner of Meli-Melo, 6635 Delmar, said the issue of prop- <br /> erty damage has not been addressed. She said until recently she did not feel <br /> skateboarders were a problem, however, they were now traveling in groups of <br /> four to twenty teenagers and young adults who were monopolizing certain areas <br /> of the Loop, preventing families and others frau enjoying themselves, and do- <br /> ing damage to planters and buildings. <br /> } <br /> Mr. Price said he also had witnessed some recent vandalism by skateboarders. <br /> Bill No. 7950 was given its second reading. <br /> Bill No. 7950 was given its third reading. <br /> Mr. Schootner moved that this bill be adopted as an ordinance. Bill No. 7950 became Ordinance No. 5742. <br /> Mr. Adams noted that several speakers suggested establishing a skateboard area <br /> but a major drawback would be the cost of liability insurance.
