I
1
Session 1526, Minutes Page 8 1
IL August 13, 1990
k
public hearing on the tax rate, notices also should be sent to neighborhood
associations, for instance. Mr. 011endorff said the hearing held this evening
was merely a formality required by state law; the budget public hearing in May
is on the City calendar, and that is the time for citizens' input. Mr. Feld-
man circulated
photographs to Oatncil that showed the overflowing dumpsters on
his street, saying he was concerned about similar problems when the changeover
to the roll-out cart system occurs. He was concerned that those using the new
system will not read the instructions on how to use these con'-ainers, and that
few on his street take any responsibility for trying to keep the area clean..
Another problem is improper street drainage, which results in pools of water
that breed mosquitos. Mr. Price said perhaps when the changeover to roll-out
carts comes about, he and the City Manager could speak with the apartment own-
er and other residents on the street about this problem and what is expected
of them in terms of keeping the area litter-free.
1
CCUNCIIMERBER DOm marcs
Mrs. Schuman noted that in several locations where curbs were replaced recent-
ly, handicapped access cuts were not installed; however, the contractor was
supposed to have met all city specifications. If that is true, then the spe-
cifications have not been written correctly because the policy adopted approx-
imately a year ago calls for handicapped access on curbs. Mr. 011endorff said
he will find out what happened in this case. I
Mr. Price said on August 26th there will be a House and Garden Tour in the
northeast area of the City. He displayed the printed brochure that describes
what will be on the tour. He encouraged the Mayor and Council to attend and
said the tour will promote the excellent housing stock that exists north of
Olive. Mayor Majerus agreed, adding that some very interesting houses and
gardens have been selected to be on the tour.
Mr. Price called attention to the very successful "National Night Out" that
was held throughout the City on August 7th. He said a great many neighbor-
hoods participated, and in one area more than 200 people attended. 1
Mayor.Majerus reminded vounci].menibers of the Council study meeting that has
been scheduled for September 8, 1990.
ADJOURNMENT 11
Mayor Majerus adjourned the meeting at 8:23 p.m.
1
c,6 .....t, 2
, /7,„gegA... t
Dolores A.
