Session 1527, Minutes Page 5
ILle August 27, 1990
COUNCIIMEMBER COMMENTS
Mrs. Thompson said she received a large number of calls from distressed resi-
dents who got explanatory letters on haw to use the new refuse roll-out carts.
She said they were upset because they did not have a place to keep the carts
and thought they would be much more difficult to use than bags; however, she
encouraged them to give the pilot program a try. It was suggested that for
most people it would be easier to rollthe cart than to carry heavy bags to
the curb. Mr. 011endorff said those with a specific problem should call Pub-
lic Works to see if something can be worked out. Mrs. Thompson said the City
should seek out and publicize those who like the new system.
Mrs. Schuman said she received calls frau those who have had this type system
in other cities and want to know when they will receive it here. Deputy City
Manager Glassman said the City bought equipment that will service smaller
carts, so it may be possible to provide senior citizens with a more easily
handled size. Ms. Glassman said that yard waste can now be picked up, too,
and should be put out on the regular day of pickup. Responding to Mrs. Thomp-
son, Ms. Glassman said the pickup day to be eliminated will be included in the
instruction letter sent to residents who receive this neva service. Mayor Ma-
jerus said the Public Works Department was trying to find paper bags for the
yard waste so container and all may be put in the tub grinder, but there will
be a charge for the bags.
AEOCURNMENT
Mayor Majerus adjourned the meeting at 6:10 p.m.
0404. a, ?71,
Dolores A. Miller
City Clerk
