APPOINTMENTS <br />1. <br />Gregory Pace was nominated to be appointed to the Advisory Board/Washington University <br />by Mr. Glickert, seconded by Mr. Sharpe and the motion carried unanimously. <br />2. <br />Kristin Sobotka was nominated to be appointed to the Advisory Board/Washington University <br />by Mr. Kraft, seconded by Mr. Glickert and the motion carried unanimously. <br />3. <br />David Whiteman was nominated to be appointed to the Advisory Board/Washington <br />University by Mr. Kraft, seconded by Mr. Glickert and the motion carried unanimously. <br />4. <br />Kevin Taylor was nominated to be appointed to the Advisory Board/Washington University by <br />Mr. Sharpe, seconded by Ms. Carr and the motion carried unanimously. <br />5. <br />Michael Waxenberg was nominated to be appointed to the Civil Service Board replacing <br />Victor Pichon by Mr. Kraft, seconded by Mr. Glickert and the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />G. SWEARING IN <br /> <br />1. <br />Myra Vandersall was sworn in to the Arts & Letters Commission <br />2. <br />Joan Suarez was sworn in to the Civil Service Board in the City <br /> Clerk’s office <br />3. <br />Katie Koenigs was sworn in to the Youth Commission in the City <br /> Clerk’s office <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch stated that it appears there will be a new Councilmember at the next meeting and <br />with that in mind she would like to recognize Byron Price who has served on Council for a total of <br />sixteen years. She stated that Mr. Price has displayed a passion for working not only for his <br />constituents in Ward 3, but for all of the young people in this community. Mayor Welsch stated <br />that she respects anyone who gives up their personal time for their community, and would like to <br />wish Mr. Price, his wife and family well as he leaves chambers to focus on the next stage of his <br />journey. <br /> <br />Mr. Sharpe presented Mr. Price with a token of thanks from the people of University City. <br /> <br />Mr. Price acknowledged several individuals who were a major influence during his tenure on City <br />Council, and gave a special tribute to Mr. Richard Dockett, Mr. Walter Daniels and Fannye <br />Houston; all of whom have since passed away. Mr. Price thanked his supporters and offered <br />words of encouragement by quoting former resident Reverend Sterling Lance, “Always do the <br />right thing, for the right reasons, the right way, and you will never have any problems”. Mr. Price <br />noted his accomplishments as follows: (1) the first nuisance law, (2) absentee landlord law bill, (3) <br />nd <br />Pit Bull law, (4) senior repair program, (5) federal funding for 82 Street home erosion, (6) <br />Fire/Police Department Cadet program, (7) new track for University City High School, (8) <br />Proposition U for youth, (9) Two million dollars for street repair to flood victims, (10) enhancement <br />of the police/fire departments and (11) purchase of vacant lots to build new homes. <br /> <br />Ms. Carr stated that she met Mr. Price while working on opposite sides of an issue, but what she <br />saw was really amazing. Mr. Price responded to his constituents like she wished everyone would <br />do. She stated that Mr. Price became her role model and mentor, always inspiring her to be <br />involved in solving a problem and to become more than just a figurehead. Ms. Carr stated that <br />she had no idea what a good friend Mr. Price would wind up being, so no matter who sits in his <br />chair after tonight, she will always miss him. <br /> <br />Mr. Crow stated that it has been a wonderful six years with his colleague Mr. Price, and he <br />believes that most of the folks in the audience would agree that he has been a very dedicated <br />public servant for all of University City. Mr. Crow stated that it goes virtually without saying that <br />no one on this dais acts with more passion than Mr. Price, who always stayed true to his beliefs. <br />And as he mentioned the litany of projects that he has been involved in over the years the <br />overarching theme has always been to provide a voice for those who may not be able or <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
