Traffic Commission
6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 505-8560, Fax: (314) 862-0694
Gutierrez reminded everyone that at last months meeting it was decided that the restriction
on the south side of the street would be removed. A motion was made and approved by the
commission to support this decision.
Ms. Gutierrez informed to the Commission that one of the residents present at the May 14,
2014 meeting sent a communication after the meeting via email requesting that a parking
restriction be pursued for the north side of the street along with the removal of the
restriction on the south side of the street in order to obtain a more comprehensive parking
plan on the 7200 Block of Forsyth Avenue.

Commissioner Wofsey asked Ms. Gutierrez to recap what was discussed at the May 14,
2014 meeting in referenced to the 7200 Block of Forsyth. Specifically, what the parking
restrictions are on each side of the street as well as the motion that was made approved.

Ms. Gutierrez explained that in the 7200 block of Forsyth (between Manhattan Ave and
Asbury Ave). There are currently no parking restrictions on the north side of the street and
the south side of the street has a peak hour parking restriction every day except Saturday,
Sunday, and Holiday’s from 7:00am – 9:00am and from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

Ms. Gutierrez further explained that a motion was made to remove the peak hour parking
restriction on the south side of the street thus Forsyth Blvd has no parking restrictions on
that block on either side.

Ms. Gutierrez advised that the request is to consider removing the parking restriction on the
south side and to create a parking restriction on the north side of the street. However, it is
necessary to hear from the residents to find out what hours they would like, if they would
like a different type of restriction, or if they would like a residential parking permit.

Lou Klatch, 7267 Forsyth Blvd
Trash cans are left in the street in which is supposed to be a traffic lane. Mr. Klatch pointed
out that parking restrictions were set up when interstate 64-40 was done. Mr. Klatch
suggested creating a 9:00am to 9:00pm Residential Parking Permit on the north side of the
street in the 7200 block of Forsyth.

Bret Shaw, 7271 Forsyth Blvd
Mr. Shaw explained that there are a couple of issues, one is that the students have to park
on the opposite side of the street in which they live and cross the street through traffic
which is a safety hazard. The other issue is, due to the high volume of traffic in the
morning, it is difficult to see the elementary school students walking in the morning. Mr.
Shaw expressed that it makes sense to have the multiple unit housing residents to park on
their side of the street.

Steve Birenbaum, 7205 Forsyth
Mr. Birenbaum explained that he discussed this issue with several neighbors on his side of
the street. Mr. Birenbaum expressed that they are in favor of no parking restriction on either
side of the street in which was already approved by the Commission. Mr. Birenbaum further
explained the students want to park on the south side of the street, but will park on the
Page 2
Traffic Commission Minutes – June 11, 2014
