Mrs. Tn~- <br />son asked how it was known if companies are owned by females or minorities. <br />She noted that bids fk~ minority or femklle owned firms for former Consent <br />Calenaa~ Items 3 and 4 were not accepted, and she wisba~d to know why. Mr. <br />Ollendorff said all firms are asked to indicate on the bid form if they are <br />minority or femk31e owned, and for Iten 2, none indicated they were. For <br />Items 3 and 4, the minority or f~mklle owned firms were not the low bidders. <br />Mrs. Tnc~son wanted to know haw to give more City business to minority owned <br />firms. Mr. Ollendorff said bid packages are sent to all known minority bid- <br />ders, but he did not know why they were not the low bidders in these cases. <br />Mrs. ~h~ueon said low bidders did not always get the work. Mr. Ollendorff <br />said Council could accept whatever bid they felt was in the best interests of <br />the City; h~wever, he nearly always recu~ends the lowest bid meeting City <br />specifications. He said the City does everything possible to attract female <br />and minority owned firms. Mrs. Schuman felt the City has an exceptional rec- <br />ord in attracting minority bidders.
