stated that when the lighting was previously presented, the issue of symmetry had not been brought up.
The design was different when it was discussed two years ago.

-Two concerns were expressed by the Commission; if the pedestrian light on the side of the
pole would clash, it would be better to not include it until the other lights are changed; and
concern about the symmetry, which is why the next item is on the agenda.

-What options are you willing to consider in order to make this more symmetrical? Mr.
Nittler stated they could add more lights if necessary, and would make the layout
symmetrical. It would require some redesign of drawings.

-Concern about how to make a recommendation on the design without seeing a revised
drawing. It was stated that it would possibly have to be postponed until additional
information was provided. Guidance could be provided as to what the Commission would be
looking for.

-It was stated that when driving west on Delmar, one sees open space and the Lion Gates. If
different light styles were added, and they were asymmetrical, it could take the focus off the
open space and the gates and look cluttered.

Mr. Greatens stated the next HPC meeting was scheduled for Thursday May 15, four weeks from today.

-Mr. Chris Poehler, with the Loop Trolley Company, stated they had hoped to be done before
th
the 15 and asked if they could have a consultation beforehand.

-It was stated that due to public meeting requirements and sunshine law, there would be
concern about what was communicated via email.

-Commission members stated they could call a meeting for two weeks and could vote on the
matter at that time.

Mr. Nittler asked if the preference would be for six lights or four symmetrical lights.

-Commission members stated that the number of lights was not the issue, as long as it was
symmetrical. Mr. Nittler stated that the placement of lights as shown currently was simply to
provide proper illumination and if they could achieve appropriate lighting levels, would stick
to four lights.

-Commission members reiterated that the placement of the lights was their main concern. A
request was made for an east-west perspective that would show roughly what the new lights
would look like in the context of the existing roundabout. Mr. Nittler stated that was
possible, perhaps overlaid over a photograph.

A motion was made by Ms. Marin to postpone any action on the agenda item and address the issue again
at an HPC meeting on May 1. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hamilton and carried unanimously.

Mr. Greatens asked if everyone knew whether or not they could attend on May 1. Five members stated
they could attend and two that could not.

4. Other Business

4.a.
