ARTICLE 903. DANCE HALLS AND Df2~CING SCHOOLS, <br /> <br />Section 903.1. Definitions. <br /> <br />Section 903.2. License required. <br /> <br />Section 903.3. Applications. <br /> <br />Section 903.4. License fees, public dance halls or public dances. <br /> <br />Section 903.5. License fees, dancing schools, academies, or dancing <br /> lessons. <br /> <br />Section 903.6. Hours of operation. <br /> <br />Section 903.7. Revocation of licenses. <br /> <br />Section 903.8. Regulations for public dance halls. <br /> <br />Section 903.9. Penalty. <br /> <br /> Section 903.1. Definitions: Public dance halls, ballrooms or public <br />dances as used in this article shall mean a place or room where the public generally <br />is invited or permitted to engage in dancing for the payraent of a fee or other <br />consideration, and is held out to the public as a place where dances will be civeu. <br />A private dancing school or academy~ or dancing class, as used in this article, shall <br />mean a place conducted as a school of instruction where courses in various fo~s <br />of dentin5 are given upon the payr]ent of fees therefor, but where the public general- <br />ly is not invited or per~ltted to enter and engage in dancing. <br /> <br /> Section 903.2. License required: It shall be unlawful to conduct any <br />public dance hall or ballroom, or other place for holding any public dance or ball, <br />or to convene, hold, teach or conduct any class or person or persons in dancing, or <br />to give any instructions in dancing for hire or compensation of any kind in any ks!! <br />or acaderay or other place within the city, without a license therefor. <br /> <br /> Section 903.3. Applications: Ail applications for a license to operate <br />a public dance hall or conduct a public dance, or to conduct a dancing school, <br />academy or dancing classes, shall be ~ade to the director of finance on such fort~s <br />as he raay prescribe, giving such information as may be required. All such applica- <br />tions shall be referred to the chief of police for investigation. He shall, witl~ <br />the assistance of the chief of the fire department, investigate the hall or premises <br />where it is proposed to conduct such public dance or public dance hall, having <br />particular regard to its provisions for safeguarding the patrons and the public. <br />The chief of police shall also investigate the character and fitness of the person, <br />persons, partnership, corporation, club, associations organization or society, and <br />a report of such investigation shall be ~ade to the director of finance. The appli- <br />cation and report shall thereupon be referred to the council, which shall direct <br />the issuance of such license or deny the same, as the public interest may require. <br /> <br /> Section 903.4. License fees, public dance halls or public dances: The <br />following fees shall be paid upon the issuance of a license for a public dance <br />hall or public dance: <br /> <br />Per year ....................... $100.00 <br />Per month ...................... 50.00 <br />Per day ........................ 10.00 <br /> <br /> Section 903.5. License fees, dancing schools, academies, or dancing <br />lessons: All persons, firms or corporations engaged in conducting a dancing school, <br />dancing academy, or giving dancing lessons shall make application and returns for <br />licenses in like manner, and be required to pay the same license tax, as is pro- <br />vided in this chapter for merchants. <br /> <br /> <br />
