( Article 9 Fire Resistire Construction ) <br /> (SECTION 905.0 EXTERIOR WALLS) <br />905.6 Continuity of Exterior Walls: Exterior walls required to be <br />fire-resistance rated by Section 905.2 because of fire separation <br />distance, shall be continuous from the foundation to not less than <br />30 inches (762 nun) above the roof surfaces. <br /> <br />Exceptionsz <br /> <br />Where the roof deck or sheathing is constructed of <br />approved noncombustible materials or fire retardant- <br />treated wood, or such roof sheathing or deck is <br />constructed with 5/8 inch type X water resistant gypsum <br />board supported directly beneaththe underside of the roof <br />sheathing or deck, using minimum nominal 2 inch by 2 inch <br />ledgers attached to the sides of the roof framing members, <br />for a minimum distance of 4 (1219 mm) feet from the <br />exterior wall, and where the roof covering has a minimum <br />of a Class C rating, the exterior wall shall be permitted <br />to stop at the underside of the roof deck or sheathing. <br /> <br />Exterior walls of a building where the roof has an angle <br />of more than 20 degrees (0.35 rad) with the horizontal. <br /> <br /> (SECTION 907.0 FIRE WALLS AND PARTY WALLS) <br />907.6.2 Combustible Roofsz Walls are permitted to terminate at <br />the underside of the roof deck in Types 3, 4 and 5 construction <br />where all of the following conditions are met: <br /> <br />1. The wall is properly fire-stopped at the deck. <br /> <br />The roof sheathing or deck is constructed of approved <br />noncombustible materials, fireretardant-treated wood, or <br />such roof sheathing or deck is constructed with 5/8 inch <br />type X water resistant gypsum board supported directly <br />beneath the underside of the roof sheathing or deck, using <br />minimum nominal 2 inch by 2 inch ledgers attached to the <br />sides of the roof framing members, four (4) (1219 nun) feet <br />on both sides of the fire wall. <br /> <br />3. Combustible material does not extend through the wall. <br /> <br />4. The roof covering has a minimum of Class C rating. <br /> <br /> (SECTION 921.0 FIRESTOPPPING AND DRAFTSTOPPING) <br />921.6.2 Connections between horizontal and vertical spaces; <br />Firestopping shall be provided at all interconnections between <br />vertical and horizontal spaces such as occur at soffits over <br />cabinets, drop ceilings, cove ceilings and similar locations. <br /> <br />Exception:Firestopping shall not be required where drop <br />ceilings are installed in existing buildings provided the <br /> 12 <br /> <br /> <br />
