BILL NO. <br /> <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON <br /> <br />8072 ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />5861 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 54 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO <br />ZONING, BY REPEALING SECTION 54-110, RELATING TO <br />INTENT AND PURPOSE AND ENACTING THEREIN A NEW <br />SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 54-110 INTENT AND <br />PURPOSE" BY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO <br />PROMOTE THE EDUCATIONAL, CULTURAL, ECONOMIC, AND <br />GENERAL WELFARE IN UNIVERSITY CITY; CONTAINING A <br />SAVING CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Chapter 54 of the Municipal Code of the City of <br />University City (University City Zoning Code) divides the <br />City into several zoning districts, and regulates the uses to <br />which the premises located therein may be put; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 54-ii0 thereof provides ~or the <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission, <br />on March 25, 1992, reviewed Section <br />"intent and purpose" and recommended <br />amendment hereinafter set out; and <br /> <br />after a meeting held <br />54-110, pertaining to <br />the passage of the <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a public hearing was duly held at 7:50 p.m., on <br />May 18, 1992, at City Hall, University City, Missouri, and <br />all suggestions or objections concerning said amendment were <br />duly heard and considered by the Council; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Chapter 54 of the Municipal Code of the City <br />of University City, Missouri, as amended April 15, le81, by <br />Ordinance No. 5277 is hereby amended by repealing Section 54- <br />110 thereof, relating to intent and purpose, and enacting in <br />lieu thereof a new Section 54-110 to promote the educational, <br />cultural, economic, and general welfare in University city, <br />so that said section, as so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> <br />54-110 INTENT AND PURPOSE <br /> <br />The preservation of historic landmarks and districts <br />promotes the public welfare and serves a public <br />purpose by providing education, enrichment and <br />inspiration to residents of the city and by main- <br />taining a civic cultural environment conducive to <br />the conservation of property values. The purpose of <br />this article is to promote the educational, cultural, <br />economic, and general welfare in University City by: <br /> <br />1.
