characteristics of University City which represent <br />elements of the city's cultural, social, economic, <br />political, and architectural history; <br />2. Fostering civic pride in the beauty and noble <br />accomplishments of the past, as represented in <br />University City landmarks and historic districts; <br />3. Conserving and improving the value of property <br />designated as landmarks or within historic <br />districts; <br />4. Protecting and enhancing the attractiveness of <br />the city to home buyers, tourists, visitors and <br />shoppers; and thereby supporting and promoting <br />business, commerce, industry and providing economic <br />benefit to the city; <br />5. Fostering and encouraging preservation, <br />restoration and rehabilitation of structures, areas <br />and neighborhoods, and thereby preventing urban <br /> <br />6. Promoting the environment of historic districts <br />and landmarks by the people of the city. <br /> <br />It is the intent of this article to reasonably assure <br />the preservation of historic landmarks and districts. <br />In doing so it is intended that this article be <br />construed liberally so as to preserve the basic <br />aspects of the historic landmarks and districts <br />rather than the preservation of every historic <br />detail. <br /> <br />It is further intended that any new construction be <br />compatible with the existing surrounding structures <br />rather than be a particular architectural style; <br />that there be no restriction on interior alterations <br />which do not affect the exterior appearance of <br />buildings with the exception of interiors designated <br />in historic district or landmark regulations. <br /> <br /> Section 2. Except for the change herein made, said <br />Chapter 34 of the Municipal Code of the City of University <br />CiI~ (University City Zoning Code) as amended, Shall remain <br />in full force and effect, and all the provisions, conditions, <br />restrictions, and regulations therein shall be in full force <br />and effect. <br /> <br /> Section 5. This ordinance shall not be construed so as <br />to relieve any person, firm or corporation from any penalty <br />heretofore incurred by the violation of Section 54-110, nor <br />to bar the prosecution of any such violation. <br /> <br /> Section ~. Any person, firm, or corporation violating <br />any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon <br />conviction thereof, be subject to the penalty provided by <br />law. <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
