above the nosing of the tread or above the finished floor of the landing or walking surface. <br />Guards shall be not less than 30 inches (762mm) high above the floor of the landing, balcony, <br />porch, deck, ramp or other walking surface. <br /> <br />PM-702.11.1 Locks permitted: Locks or fasteners shall not be installed on egress doors <br />except in accordance with the following conditions: <br /> <br />1. In mental, penal or other institutions where secudty of inmates is necessary provided <br />approved provisions are made to remove occupants in case of fire or other emergency <br />utilizing properly trained supervisory personnel who are continuously on duty. <br /> <br />2. In problem security areas provided approved provisions are made for special- <br />purpose door alarms or locking devices. Manually operated edge or surface mounted <br />bolts are prohibited. <br /> <br />3. Key operation is permiffed from a dwelling unit provided the existing dwelling unit <br />means of egress door contains a glass panel or is located immediately adjacent to an <br />existing window or fixed glass panel and there is another approved means of egress <br />door from the dwelling unit not requiring key operation from the inside. <br /> <br />PM-702.12 Emergency escape: Every sleeping room located in a basement shall have at least <br />one openable window or extedor door approved for emergency egress or rescue; or shall have <br />access to not less than two approved independent exits. Where a window is provided for <br />emergency egress or rescue, the window shall have the bottom of the clear opening not more <br />than 44 inches (1118 ram) above the floor. The minimum net clear opening shall be 5 square <br />feet (0.47 m2). The minimum net clear opening height dimension shall be 24 inches (610 mm). <br />The minimum net clear opening width dimension shall be 20 inches (508 ram). <br /> <br />PM-702.13 Emergency lighting: All buildings, rooms or spaces required by the building code <br />to have more than one exit or exit access, shall be equipped with approved emergency means <br />of egress lighting to assure continued illumination for a duration of not less than 1 hour in case <br />of a power loss. All illuminated exit signs shall be connected to an approved emergency power <br />source. <br /> <br />Exceptions: One- and Two-family dwellings or multiple family dwellings not exceeding <br />three stories in height and six dwelling units per floor. <br /> <br />(SECTION PM-704.0 FIRE RESISTANCE RATINGS) <br /> <br />PM-704.3 Attached garages: Pdvate garages located beneath a dwelling unit shall be <br />separated from the dwelling unit by walls, partitions, floors and ceilings with a fire resistance <br />rating of not less than one (1) hour. Private garages attached to a dwelling shall be completely <br />separated from the dwelling unit, its basement and its attic area by means of one-half (1/2) inch <br />gypsum board or equivalent applied to the garage side and taped at the joints. Doors separating <br />garages from such dwelling units, basements or attics shall solid core doors with a minimum <br />thickness of one and three-eighths (1-3/8) inches or approved equivalent door. <br /> <br />PM-704.4 Barriers to fire: Fireblocking, draftstopping, fire stopping and thermal barriers <br />required by the building code listed in Chapter 8 shall be maintained. <br /> <br />-!6- <br /> <br /> <br />
