BILL NO. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AN ADDITIONAL ONE-FOURTH OF <br />ONE PERCENT SALES TAX ON ALL RETAIL SALES MADE IN <br />THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO <br />TAXATION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF SECTIONS 144.010 TO <br />144.525 RSMO, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL <br />FUNDING FOR STORM WATER CONTROL AND LOCAL PARKS <br />FOR THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE <br />SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING SUCH TAX TO <br />THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY AT <br />THE GENERAL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 5, 2002. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on November 6, 2001, the qualified voters of the City of University <br />City approved and passed Proposition R, authorizing the City to impose a one-fourth of <br />one percent sales tax for the purpose of providing funding for storm water control and <br />local parks for the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said sales tax has been in effect and imposed since on or about <br />April 1, 2002; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Section 644.032 RSMo permits the City to impose a sales tax of up <br />to one-half of one percent for said purpose, subject to voter approval; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City desires to impose an additional one-fourth of one percent <br />sales tax for said purpose, for a total of one-half of one percent. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. An additional one-fourth of one percent sales tax is hereby <br />imposed on all retail sales made in the City of University City, Missouri, which are <br />subject to taxation under the provisions of Sections 144.010 to 144.525 RSMo, for the <br />purpose of providing funding for storm water control and local parks for the City of <br />University City. This tax shall be in addition to any and all other sales taxes allowed by <br />law, including but not limited to the one-fourth of one percent sales tax approved by the <br />qualified voters of University City for said purpose on or about November 6, 2001. <br /> <br /> Section 2. An election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of <br />University City, Missouri on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, for the purpose of submitting <br />to the qualified voters of said City the following proposition: <br /> <br /> <br />
