INTRODUCED BY: The Entire Council DATE: February 9, 2009 BILL NO.: 9019 ORDINANCE NO.: 6768 AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF PART OF HARVARD AVENUE TO SGT. MIKE KING DRIVE; AMENDING UNIVERSITY CITY MUNICIPAL CODE SECTIONS 10.36.100, 10.36.160, AND 10.48.030 TO REFLECT SUCH NAME CHANGE; AND DIRECTING THAT THE ORDINANCE BE RECORDED IN THE OFFICE OF THE RECORDER OF DEEDS OF ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MISSOURI; CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. Whereas, Sgt. Mike King gave his life in the line of duty and in the protection of the citizens of University City on October 31, 2008; and Whereas, Sgt. Mike King was an outstanding police veteran for the City of University City for over 25 years and served his community with dedication, honor and the highest standard of the work a police officer must perform to protect the City he loved; and Whereas, Sgt. Mike King was an outstanding role model for the young men and women who serve our City and was admired and beloved by his brothers and sisters of the University City Police Department and by the citizens he encountered daily as he patrolled the Delmar Loop and the rest of University City; and Whereas, Sgt. Mike King was a lifelong resident of University City and loved the City he faithfully served and protected; and Whereas, Sgt. Mike King was the loving husband of Susan King, son of Dr. M. Kenton and Julie King, and brother of David King, Douglas King, John King and Thomas King; and Whereas, Sgt. Mike King graduated from University City High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Washington University; and Whereas, the citizens of University City and the men and women of law enforcement of the entire St. Louis Community mourned and honored this fallen hero. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Harvard Avenue, from the north line of Delmar Boulevard to a point 372 feet north thereof, is hereby changed to Sgt. Mike King Drive. All ordinances, regulations and laws of the City of University City, Missouri which refer to said part of Harvard Avenue shall be deemed to refer to Sgt. Mike King Drive.
