Michael King and Sgt. Shawn Whitley, Police Department (non-voting member)

Ordinance requires the Council to appoint 7 voting members to the Traffic Commission.
Currently, there are 4 vacancies. Therefore, the commissioners present decided to
continue with the meeting.

Residents present at the meeting:
Robyn Grier, resident at 8224 Swarthmore Ct.
Vivian Dednam, resident at 8230 Swarthmore Ct.

1.Request for “no parking” along the curb between 8218 and 8230

Swarthmore Ct.

Robyn Grier, property owner of 8224 Swarthmore Court, was present. She requested
that a “no parking” area be established along the “s-shaped” curb between 8218 and
8230 Swarthmore Ct. The request was supported by Vivian Dednam, property owner
of 8230 Swarthmore Ct. who was also present.

Ms. Grier stated that cars parked there limit her ability to get in and out of her
driveway. Ms. Dednam mentioned that they also have problems taking out the
garbage cart because of cars parked on the street. They fear that the parking along
this curb may get worse because of the new development at the beginning of the 8200
block of Swarthmore Ct.

The Commissioners reviewed the information presented by the Engineering Division;
however, they stated that the length of the curb is just enough to accommodate one
car parked. Sgt. King mentioned that the cul-the-sac in the 8200 block of Swarthmore
Court is a tight area to turn around. Also, Police representatives agreed that
emergency vehicles would have difficulties in accessing this area if cars are parked.
Sgt. Whitley mentioned that should be an indication for “no parking” 10 feet from the
existing hydrant in the corner of 8230 Swarthmore Court.
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2006\Minutes 2-8-06.doc
