He said the primary purpose of <br />the city's rec~,~-~t.-~ was to avoid neighbozhood ovel~uwd/ng. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner moved denial, with Mrs. Schuman _seco__nding the motion. <br /> <br />I~-~ Gary Menchel, 8361 Balson, principal of Block Yeshiva High School in O1- <br />ivette, asked to address the Council. He said the school draws most of its <br />students f~. the University city area; however, it believes a number of stu- <br />der~s f~ ,outside the area are interest_~_ in attending, and a program of re- <br />crt~tlnent has begktn. He ~aid the school is d~{cae~ to academic achieven~nt, <br />and students attend classes f~ 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. except on Friday, with <br />seversl hours of hcx~work each night. He said there wuuld be round-the-clock <br />supervision with a very strict code of core, ct in the dormitory. He asked <br />that Council allow up to five students en the second floor of the dwelling in <br />question. He also stated there ~uld be no identifying signs of any k/nd. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman said she knew that Block Yeshiva ~ras a fine school; hc~ever, <br />Council has consistently c~ this kind of use in residential neighborhoods <br />and she felt it should continue to do so. <br /> <br />Ail voted Aye in favor of denial. Mayor Majerus ag=~ed with Mrs. Schuman that <br />t/mis was not in any way a judgment of tb~ school, but simply a der~ial of a use <br />the Council feels is inapp~°~riate in a residential neighborhsod. <br /> <br />S£.i~i~_AN- 6665DELMAR-~L <br /> <br />Mr. Ollendorff rec~,,~nded approval of an application to use the second floor <br />of the premises at 6665 Dell~ar for school purposes with provisions that there <br />be no exterior signs and that no other 'space in the building be used for <br />classrocx~ without additional site plan ~ by the City Oouncil.
