Session 1815
June 25, 2001

Herschel Asner, 630 Trinity, represents the University City Senior Service Board. They
are requesting non-essential transportation for the seniors. They currently provide
medical transportation from the senior's home to the medical facility. Seniors often ask
him why they will not provide transportation to social events. Despite the generous
support that they receive from University City, they operate at a small deficit and they
just don't have the money to pay the drivers. They are requesting $5,000 to pay the
drivers for the extra time taking the seniors to social events. It would allow them to offer
these types of services on a regular and ongoing basis.

Mary Hart, 6901 Cornell, stated that she was here as chairperson of the Senior Issues
Committee under U. City East. She is here to urge the Council to reconsider allocating
$5,000 to the Senior Service Board as just presented by Herschel Asner and also
$10,000 to hire a senior planner to determine the needs of seniors in the community.
Seniors are a vital resource and deserve and need our support.

Sharon Hales, 8115 Roxbourgh, 63105, stated that she is employed by Oasis. Oasis is
a service provider that was asked to be a part of the U. City East's Senior Issues
Committee. U. City East is a voluntary committee and a lot of hard work has been done
with many tangible results, but there is just so much they can do on a voluntary basis.
She stressed that it is very important to hire senior needs assessment planner. They
have asked for grant monies from surrounding organizations and businesses.
Partnerships are being developed to broaden interests of the seniors. They would like
to see a full time senior coordinator hired at one point. Ms. Hart stated that she
dropped by a packet that summarized their accomplishments and grant efforts with the
City Clerk on Friday that she hoped everyone has an opportunity to go through.

Mayor Adams closed the public hearing at 8:11 p.m.

AGENDA #5 - FINAL SUBDIVISION PLAT - 7836 FORSYTH:

Mr. Ollendorff recommends final approval of a final plat for the Clayton Land Company
property adjacent to the Ritz Carleton Hotel lying primarily within the City of Clayton
with a small area in University City. Property lines change only within the City of
Clayton. Thus, there is no change in that part of the plat lying within University City.
This boundary revision results in establishment of one parcel of land available for future
development beneficial to both cities. No development is currently proposed.

Mr. Wagner moved approval. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion, which carried
unanimously.

9
