C. If there are no further benefits otherwise payable under this section and the <br /> total amount of benefits received by a member, retiree, or beneficiary up <br /> to the date of the death of the last survivor is less than an amount equal to <br /> the member's accumulated contributions at the member's death or at the <br /> member's retirement date, whichever occurs first, the difference shall be <br /> paid to the beneficiary named to receive such amount, or, if no such <br /> beneficiary is living, to the estate of the person last receiving benefits, or, <br /> if no benefits have been received, to the estate of the member. <br /> 2.64.440 Benefit Adjustments <br /> A. All retirees and beneficiaries shall continue to receive the increases in <br /> monthly benefits previously authorized by ordinance. Said increases are as <br /> follows: <br /> 1. Effective February 23, 1987, a monthly increase of ten percent to <br /> retirees who retired prior to September 1, 1981, and to <br /> beneficiaries whose spouses retired prior to September 1, 1981, <br /> provided such retirees and beneficiaries were receiving benefits as <br /> of February 23, 1987; <br /> 2. Effective January 1, 1990, a monthly increase of ten dollars <br /> ($10.00)to all retirees who retired prior to January 1, 1989, and to <br /> their beneficiaries, provided such retirees and beneficiaries were <br /> receiving benefits as of January 1, 1990; <br /> 3. Effective December, 1992, a monthly increase of twenty-five <br /> dollars ($25.00) to all retirees who retired prior to July 1, 1991, <br /> and to their beneficiaries other than children, provided such <br /> retirees and beneficiaries were receiving benefits as of December, <br /> 1992. <br /> B. Effective January 1, 1995, all retirees who retired prior to June 1, 1994, <br /> and whose employment terminated after they became eligible for <br /> retirement pursuant to this chapter, and their beneficiaries other than <br /> children, shall receive a monthly benefits increase of ten dollars ($10.00), <br /> provided such retirees and beneficiaries were receiving benefits as of <br /> January 1, 1995. <br /> C. Effective July 1, 1998, all retirees who retired prior to December 31, 1996, <br /> and whose employment terminated after they became eligible for <br /> retirement pursuant to this chapter, and their beneficiaries other than <br /> children, shall receive a monthly benefits increase of twenty dollars <br /> ($20.00), provided such retirees and beneficiaries were receiving benefits <br /> as of July 1, 1998. <br /> Restated Nonuniformed Pension Plan—City of University City Page 14 <br /> 4 <br />
