Session 1827
December 3, 2001

AGENDA ITEM #2 - SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAMS:

The Park Commission unanimously recommends approval of the Summer 2002
recreation proposals prepared by the City staff. The proposals include continuation of
every part of our expanded recreation program as authorized by the City Council last
year. Total staffing remains the same as in the current budget except that the hourly
rates are increased as per the City Council decision last summer. Mr. Ollendorff
recommends Council approval of these recommendations at this time so that program
preparations and publicity can proceed on a timely basis. It should be noted that the
Park Commission and the City staff recommend no staff in the current fee structure
despite program cost increases. The Park Commission and staff have received many
favorable comments over the past year on the greatly expanded quantity and quality of
programs. They are pleased to again offer so many excellent options to our citizens.

Mr. Sharpe moved approval. Mr. Schoomer seconded the motion.

Mr. Lieberman said that he wished to inform Mr. Ollendorff of the up coming vote of the
School Board, in which they are planning to require all U. City schoolchildren of all ages
to attend summer school. Every single elementary school will be opened for
compulsory summer school from June 17'h to July 25'h. They will be open from 7:30 a.m.
until 1:45 p.m. for all elementary and from 7:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. for all secondary level
students. This will more than likely cause a conflict with the summer recreation
program. He would like for Mr. Ollendorff to discuss this matter with Dr. Moore to see if
they can identify conflicts and make adjustments where needed. Mayor Adams agreed.

The motion carried unanimously.

CITY CLERK'S DOCKET:

BILLS FOR SECOND AND THIRD READING:

1 ,

BILL 8567 - AMENDING CHAPTER 34 OF THE MUNICPAL CODE OF THE
UNIVERSITY CITY RELATING TO ZONING DISTRICTS ESTABLISHED
PURSUANT TO SECTION 34-22 THEREOF, AND ENACTING IN LIEU
THEROF A NEW OFFICIAL ZONING MAP, THEREBY AMENDING SAID MAP
SO AS TO CHANGE THE CLASSIFICATION OF PROPERTY AT 1100 81s~
STREET FROM "SR" - SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT, TO "LR" -
LIMITED RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT; CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY.

Ms. Queen Fowler, 14 Nob Hill, was back this evening to express her concern
about this development. She believes that it will not be a quality project and
uncharacteristic with the rest of the neighborhood. She also believes that it will
cause a safety concern, because of the increase in traffic. She wishes the
