Heman Park <br />It will be a busy weekend at . The Community Action Agency of St. Louis <br />Youth Resources FairSaturday, April <br />County (CAA) is hosting a at Heman Park on <br />21 from 10 AM to 4 PM. <br /> The CAA's mission is to end poverty through helping families <br />and communities in St. Louis County prevent the conditions of poverty for future <br />generations. The Fair will have resources for youth from day camps to summer <br />employment. There will be entertainment on the city bandstand and food available for <br />purchase. They expect approximately 500 people over the course of the event. We will <br />have a booth at the fair and be scheduling day camp inside Centennial Commons in <br />addition to regular activities at the Park. <br /> <br />The Corps of Engineers and MSD are working with Public Works staff to coordinate a <br />River des Peres <br />public forum regarding the . The date has been set for Thursday, June <br />7, at 6 PM at the Heman Community Center. On a separate but similar note, MSD <br />rate <br />offered to provide a presentation at an upcoming Council meeting regarding their <br />proposal <br />. It will be a short talk, about 10 minutes, including time for questions and <br />answers. The main business item will be <br />the election of officers and Board members for the 2007-08 year. You should have <br />received the report of the Nominating Committee. St. Louis County is preparing to <br />update its strategic plan. Darin Cline, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for County <br />Executive Charlie Dooley, will provide an overview of trends in the County and discuss <br />potential new programs and directions. <br /> <br /> <br />CALOP Commission <br />The has undergone significant changes in past years and Interim <br />May 7 Study Session <br />Chair Ed Nickels will provide Council with an update during your . <br />During their meeting last week, the Commission accepted a proposal from the City to <br />revert to our previous arrangement where in the City accepts 10% of the funds for their <br />administration and an additional $300 a month for clerical support. The past year they <br />were providing their own clerical support. During the previous year they had received <br />support from the City. Most recently, they were exploring the possibility of hiring an <br />executive director but at this time have tabled the idea and are focusing on grant <br />administration. The Commission is at risk of loosing funding within the decade due to <br />changes in cable/video franchises at the State level. I have included the accepted <br />proposal for your review. <br /> <br />Pension Board <br />The sent out an RFP for actuarial services to fifteen firms and received <br />and reviewed proposals from four actuaries this month. The Pension Board met this <br />week and decided to replace James Rubie of CCA Strategies, who acted as the City’s <br />actuary for over forty years, with the new choice of Stephen Siepman of Buck <br />Consultants. The firm brings 91 years of actuarial consulting business experience. Mr. <br />Siepman joined Buck in 1977 and his expertise covers a range of issues affecting the <br />design, funding, accounting, administration, and communication of governmental <br /> <br />
