Session 1822
October 20, 2001

Mr. Sharpe reported on the County's recent implementation of Senior Response Teams
(SRT). SRT's are multi-disciplinary, geographically specific teams of service providers and
community members working together to serve seniors in a coordinated, non-fragmented,
non-duplicated, effective way. These teams discuss individual needs and initiate services
from providers. Typically, SRTs meet regularly and the team is composed of agency
representatives and seniors interested in participating. Any member of the team or family
member can present the individual needs of the senior and related concerns.

Mr. Sharpe would also like to see CDBG grant funds allocated to senior transportation in
the amount of $5,000. Mr. Ollendorff said that he would look into this.

AGENDA #5 - DISASTER PREPAREDNESS/FIRST RESPONDER:

Mr. Munkel wished to hear how the City was handling disaster preparedness and how and
if our first responders were being prepared to handle security issues in lieu of the recent
terror and bio chemical scares in the nation. He noted that the State had set up a State
Homeland Security office and that these were important issues that needed to be addressed
at the local level, as well. Mr. Ollendorff stated that our emergency services are being
notified by local agencies on issues to be watchful for and security issues that we need to
be concerned about. The County and State have been very good about providing
information on security and health concerns down to the local agencies. Mr. Ollendorff
passed out a health notice that was issued by the County Health Department on how to
identify and protect oneself from anthrax contamination. Mr. Ollendorff did not feel we
needed to do anything more, because the County and State will keep us informed of issues
we need to be alerted about. Our firefighters and Police are trained to deal with security
and hazardous materials issues and will be well prepared first responder units.

AGENDA #6 - COUNCIL INFORMATION AUTOMATION:

Ms. Forsythe explained to Council a proposal to deliver packet materials electronically,
either by email or by the internet. It was noted that some materials would always have to
be sent by paper packet and could not be converted electronically. She stated that program
would be offered as a choice and that paper packets would still be prepared and sent out
by police delivery if so desired. Mr. Ollendorff stated that he felt offering material
electronically would be an excellent opportunity to increase information avenues, but felt
that the paper packets should be continued. He would prefer paper to the electronic
format. Mayor Adams felt the electronic format would be better for him. The sense of
Council was to initiate the project, but to start out with test packets for a period of time to
determine its value and effectiveness.

AGENDA #7 - HARRIETT WOODS' SEPTEMBER 8TM MEMO:

2
