Session 1828
December 17, 2001

plan.

The motion to approve carried unanimously.

CITIZEN COMMENTS:

Jim Reeves, 7107 Cornell, wished to raise an issue of concern in the University Park
Subdivision. He is a trustee. The concern is about duplex buildings being built with
only one entrance, a front entrance. After some consideration, the trustees decided that
this may require some additional investigation. He had a conversation with Fire Chief
(assistant) Joe Rice about a month ago. Chief Rice felt that the design was very
dangerous. Thero would be no means of escape if there was a fire in the front of the
building. It makes rescuing anyone from one of those buildings very difficult. He is
referring specifically to the duplex at the 7300 block of Amherst. He understands that
there will be a number of buildings that will be built in this fashion in the near future. He
also understands that under the BOCA code that it is legal. He would like to put the
Mayor and the City Council on notice that the University Park subdivision is against the
approval of this kind of building and would urge this Council to pass an ordinance
making the BOCA code slightly more strict and require at least two entrances to those
apartment buildings.

Mr. Schoomer recommended to Mr. Reeve to amend their subdivision indenture to
prohibit those things that they do not like. Mr. Reeve appreciates the suggestion and
will certainly take it into consideration.

CITY CLERK'S DOCKET:

BILLS FOR SECOND AND THIRD READING:

BILL 8571 - AMENDING CHAPTER 2.62 OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY
MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO THE POLICE AND FIREFIGHTER'S
RETIREMENT SYSTEM, BY REPEALING SECTION 2.62.150 THEREOF,
RELATING TO RETIREMENT BENEFITS GENERALLY-SCHEDULE, AND
ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS
"SECTION 2.62.150 RETIREMENT BENEFITS GENERALLY-SCHEDULE,"
THEREBY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO INCREASE THE
MONTHLY BENEFIT TO CERTAIN RETIREES WHO RETIRED PRIOR TO
JULY 1,2000, BY TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($25) EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1,
2002.

The bill was given its second reading.
The bill was given its third reading.
