Session 1863
December 16, 2002

2. not enough equipment

3. no daytime activities

4. no fitness programs for seniors and teens, Tai Chi, yoga,
etc.

She stated that she wanted to see optimal utilization of the expanded facility. She
asked Council to consider a reasonable fee adjustment and the proceeds would be
earmarked to maintain the improvements.

Jim Pearson, 519 West Drive, stated that he and his wife moved to U. City from
Brentwood where they frequently utilized and enjoyed the Richmond Heights Recreation
Facility. He observed that much of the work at Richmond Heights had to be done over
(new floor tiles and running track) within the first year of its opening and that its workout
rooms were now inadequate. He expressed concern that, as currently proposed,
University City would also quickly outgrow an expanded facility.

Henry Berry, 7228 Dartmouth Avenue, said he had come to represent the Proposition K
Committee and to inform the community about their activities. Meetings will be held on
the first Tuesday of ever month at 6:30 pm at Heman and public feedback and input
was welcomed. He reported that they had met with the Parks Commission and
obtained copies of a survey of high school students.

Ms. Welsch asked when the current Council meeting Minutes would be available; the
Mayor replied that it would be sometime before the Council's next meeting.

Councilmember Wagner thanked Mr. Berry for appearing on behalf of the Prop K
Committee and stressed the importance of their work. He inquired about their schedule
for public meetings and Mr. Pearson promised to get one to Council after it was
developed.

Suzanne Schoomer, 7 Princeton Avenue, came to represent the swimmers who
enjoyed the outdoor pool. She said that several who came for the early morning swim
were concerned about adequate lighting. She asked that the Park Commission install
handicapped accessible swing seats this spring so that the physically challenged could
get into the water. Ms. Schoomer maintained that the handicapped are now
architecturally excluded from the pool and that this equipment would eliminate the
demand for a zero-depth entrance. She suggested that it would be best to make these
accommodations this year rather than wait another year for the much needed
renovations.

Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel, clarified that the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December
17, 2002 at 6:30 pm was for a subcommittee of Prop K. There will be many meetings of
that type for citizens to attend and participate in; their comments will be reported back to
the Council.

Mayor Adams then declared the public hearing closed at 7:50 P.M.
