Mr. Gardnerexplained that the plan will look at the
entire ward as a whole, including Olive Street.
Matt Wetli stated that focusing on the Olive corridor is a goodbeginning;however there are
other areas of the city that can use a transformation like the Delmar-Interstate 170 area.
MaeEtta Weston askedwhere the issue wouldbe best discussed about housing stock.
RaymondLai, Deputy Director of Economic and Community Development for theCity and
Project Manager for the plan update, replied that these issues may be discussed furtherwith
the working groups.
BenSenturia suggested that the plannot just focus on the southern end of the city. He said
that it needsto focus on the northern part of the city as well and the issues of that area.
People who live in that part of the city want to have the resources there also.
Mr. Lai then shared with the group that the staff has identified a preliminarylist of working
groups for specific issuesand asked each committee member to sign up for at least one
working group. He stated that these working groupswill meet individually and discuss the
issues andwill help the CPAC do itsjobbecause they will focus on specific issues.
It was also asked if the City Council had been included in this processbecause noone from
the Council was present at the meeting. Andrea Riganti, Director of Community Development
for the City, replied that no City Council member has been included in the process as of yet.
She explained that the City Charter forPlan Commission is todevelop a plan. The City Council
will be involved in process but at this point their involvement needsto be separate. It was
recommended that that buy-in be achieved at all levels and that getting the City Council
involved early is key. Andrea explained to the group that the Council will be receiving
updates.
Religious organizations are very active in this community and it was recommended thatthe
team reach out to those groups as well and have afaith-based workshop.Mr. Gardner
3
